While Guillermo Scott Herren is best known under the name of Prefuse 73, he is also collaborating with other musicians from all over the world. I have previously mentioned an album with Dimlite (in production), and I heard about one or the other alias(Ahmad Szabo, Delarosa & Asora, Piano Overlord), but Savath Y Savalas were entirely new to me - despite several releases on Warp Records!

Savath & Savalas is a collaboration between Scott Herren, Catalan Eva Puyuelo Muns and Roberto Carlos Lange from Ecuador. Their fifth studio album La Llama will be released on Stones Throw in May 2009. However, a digital release will be out on Monday week.

It's time for my Rotations update, which somehow turned from being bi-weekly into a monthly feature. That doesn't mean that I've been quiet. Actually, the opposite is the case. Человек с тысячью лиц Гиллермо Скотт Хиррен более всего известен как экспериментатор и продюсер в области глитч-хип-хопа: он выступает в этом качестве под моникером Prefuse 73. Кроме этого, Скотт выступает aka Delarosa, Asora и Savath & Savalas, в последнем проекте реализуя свой песенный потенциал: исполняя номера на испанском языке в окружении живых инструментов. А ещё Хиррен занимается делами лейбла Eastern DeVelopments, который выпускает, по выражению самого музыканта, «разную странную музыку». Также он, помимо изобретения необычного бита на компьютере, играет на гитаре и практически всех мыслимых духовых.

It's been about a month since I posted an entry on my Rotations. I guess I wanted my Best of 2007 write up to stew a bit on a back burner. But that doesn't mean that I haven't been busy. I caught up a bit on some of the artists I missed, some that I put off because I knew they were good, and some that I discovered for the first time! Here's a set of music that has graced my ears since the New Year! Enjoy!

Bruno Sanfilippo - Piano Textures (ad21 music)
The sequentially titled pieces in Piano Textures, by the Spanish contemporary composer, Bruno Sanfilippo, are nothing short of a gorgeous composition. Period. Simple and elegant, mesmerizing and haunting, the multi-velocity sampled 1923 Steinway shines as the most versatile instrument in the ensemble. And it shines in the hands of Sanfilippo, who received a degree as a Music Superior Professor in the Galvani Conservatory in Buenos Aires. …

If I'd made it a top 10, 9 and 10 would have just been there to fill the gaps, and wouldn't be anywhere near the quality of these 8...

8. The Number Twelve Looks Like You - Mongrel
2007's music was full of bands releasing career-best albums, and The Number Twelve Looks Like You were no different. Their unusual experimental-jazz-grind hybrid is perfected here. It can often be an unsettling listening experience, as throat-blistering vocals meet stop-start melodic riffs, with moments of ambience and peace thrown in. They are clearly as one-of-a-kind as ever.

7. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
There is just something so brilliantly over-the-top about Arcade Fire's music that no other band can really capture. Their interesting addition of classical elements to the indie-rock formula is highly creative and original, and is showcased perfectly in their second album Neon Bible. Expressive and often moving, and often surprisingly enthralling despite its peaceful and ambient backdrop.
