I don't know exactly why I bought both these albums around the same time (May or June 2011), as they both contain songs from the same live concerts. I could have done with only the complete version Mirrorball: The Complete Concert which was released in 2006 and contains all of the songs from the earlier released Mirrorball from 1999 (and more). But apparently I didn't pay attention, so now I have them both and I will write a combined review about them. And I must say, both albums are very good. With these live recordings Sarah McLachlan is showing that she is a really great and talented singer. Her live performance is great and her voice is beautiful, not missing any notes. Hearing these live versions of some of her most popular songs (and a few other, less famous songs), made me like her even more. …

Sarah McLachlan's 4th studio album is one of the most beautiful and one of the best she has ever made, in my opinion. And apparently a lot of people agree with me as it is one of her best selling albums so far. I bought this album in October of 2010 after I had listened a lot to her best-of album "Closer: The Best Of Sarah McLachlan" and a little bit to "Afterglow". Surfacing is a very short album, not much longer than 40 minutes and containing only 10 songs, but some real gems are among them. First of all there is Adia, which will probably always be my most favourite Sarah McLachlan song. It is the first song of her I ever heard, but it left such a big impression. It is so beautiful, pure, emotional and heartbreaking. One of the rare songs of her where I can really feel the emotion. The lyrics are also very beautiful, especially the chorus in which she sings: "We are born innocent, believe me Adia, we are still innocent. …

Actually this was the first album of Sarah McLachlan I listened to. I had a strong remembrance of hearing the song Adia somewhere back in 1998 and I still really loved this song. So that is why I bought this compilation album in January of last year (2010). I listened to it a lot while redecorating and painting my apartment and found out what a great album it is! It contains all of her 'greatest hits' and in my opinion these are also really the better songs, at least most of them. My version of this album contains 17 tracks and is packed in a digipak, instead of jewelcase. According to wikipedia this type of cardboard packaging is more wanted by 'fans' than the normal jewelcase, but I'm not sure yet if I agree with this statement. The packaging of this disc is quite simple. The cover is stylish, with Sarah walking on the beach in black and white. It looks like the end of her dress is kind of buried in the wet sand. …
