The new Beithíoch release Summoning the Past is now out and can now be downloaded in one of two ways.

    1. A shortened version free from hiarctow.com in mediocre quality mp3 format.

    2. An extended version (with an additional 18 minutes of all new never before-heard music) in various high quality formats from the Beithíoch bandcamp page - for a mere 2.50 euro.

Summoning the Past is largely made up of tracks originally released on other albums/demos/etc, here finally brought to a more ‘definitive’ level of completion. Summoning the Past is also intended to presage the next Beithíoch album, showcasing how the project has matured stylistically over the years, and to give a bit of a sense of what can be expected from new material.

  • Beithíoch: New album Dúchas - download for free

The long awaited new album from Irish black metallers Beithíoch, is available now - complete and free - from hiarctow.com. "Dúchas" translates roughly to "instinct", or "that which is native", and is inspired by the glacier-torn landscape of Ireland's north.

Stylistically this album throws up a few surprises: much of it moves away from the droney, minimalist style of the debut album (and subsequent EP) towards a sound that has more melodic intricacies and more subtleties in the arrangements. At times this album flirts with an old school doom/death sound whilst at other moments hearkens more to early Gorgoroth, Ancient or Immortal. More importantly though, this album is a serious challenge to the staleness and mediocrity of modern metal.

  • Why pop music sucks (theoretical proof).

It's not a secret that every musical composition in the most general form can be described by an acoustic formula. For instance, let's consider the following:
Y = X1 + X2 + X3 + , , , + Xn where Xi is a variable that in a given proportion and succession shows the quantitative form that represents all the acoustic qualities of any composition and let us describe it in musical notes. To go further , two probabilistic concepts should be taken into consideration. Firstly, the more statistical data you have, the easier it is to find out whether there is trend or not. Secondly, if there is a trend you can predict its future data with a certain degree of exactness.
People often say that pop music is the same. And from the mathematical point of view it's the truth simply because in a given point of time we can find an almost linear relation between the popularity of a given song in general or in a given genre etc and it's acoustic qualities. …

Something is said to be transcendent when it exceeds the ordinary and even the best, yet this form of transcendence is a perverted caricature. Man no longer knows where his place in the universe is; his existence is no longer derived from something higher than himself. More specifically, what is greater than him today is but a machine that crushes, dissects, exploits and uses him, thus making a production tool out of him. Man is looked upon from a mechanical point of view: brain, neurons, hormones, genes, and a body devoid of breath and energy. Considered as such, Man lost any reason to exist; suicides are increasing in all environments. Human life no longer has value.

Philosophical questions – Who am I? Where am I? Where am I going? – are shunned questions today; questions considered no longer valid, which make us smile and do not deserve attention. In a world where time is money, asking such questions is a waste of time.

I have always been obsessed by music; my ever-growing collection consists of 4000+ artists. Some people would say that it’s not constructive to spend so much time on music as long as time is extremely valuable and usually you can’t create any added value when you listen to music. What’s more, not so long ago I wasn’t good at studying, especially at mathematics. There were two main reasons: firstly, I wasn’t the most talented person ever, secondly, my passion for music often didn’t let me be productive. I even started thinking that something was wrong with me! Lately I’ve been trying to combat the problem and not without success! I think that there are quite a few people with the same problem, that’s why I want to tell you about my simple(?) but effective (at least in my case) method.

  • 50 Favorite Death Metal Demos

    2 avr. 2010, 5h48m par Inner_Flame

I thought I'd share a list of my favorite death metal demos. Old school metal has had a bit of a resurgence lately, but there still isn't much talk about demos. I've only really immersed myself in the genre in the last 6 months, so obviously there is a lot of stuff I still need to hear; this list won't exactly bring anyone to their knees. I'm not looking to impress though, just to help inform. Hopefully it inspires other people to make their own lists...

No particular order. I left off demos in which all songs on that demo were later put on the same LP. One demo per band, since 50 isn't that many. Death/thrash, death/doom...if it's death, it's eligible for the list

    Burial Vault--The Quest Of Afterlife
    Imprecation--Ceremony Of The Nine Angles
    Necrophobic--Slow Asphyxiation
    RANCID CHRIST--Baptized In Blasphemy
    Abhorrent--Occultus Brujeria
    Exmortis--Descent Into Chaos
    Asystole--Earth Without Christ
    Misery--Astern Diabolus
    Demigod--Unholy Domain

Evening, folks, AGreenman back for another round of Unknown Metal. This week’s looking to be a good one, as the majority of the stuff posted is right up my alley, in the death/black metal realm. Hang onto your hats!

ferovlk has done it again! Second week running where my favorite artist was one of his submissions!

Not really sure how to classify this band, but I’d say it mostly falls under melodic doom metal, with, as ferovlk described, heavy emphasis on the melody. Sometimes a bit too melodic ;) Don’t shy away, though, there is an incredibly amount of musical brilliance going on here, full to the brim with different stylistic techniques and other musical employments. The riffing is something out of this world; all of the band members are extremely talented. The vocals range from melodic singing (most of the time) to the rare growled vocal. I still don’t consider it a death grunt…
