@ctd55 One person could hope for "more room for you and more room for me" and still believe that "we'll set everybody free" in the process without experiencing any cognitive dissonance as a result. Its generally known as being a moron... ;)

I think this is my favorite Randy Newman song. And that's saying a lot, because it's a difficult choice to make, so much of his material flies above and beyond excellent.

Spot on lyrically. Very well crafted song wrapped up in 2 minutes!

Remember, kiddies, that bully only pushes you around because of his own deep-seated insecurities. Oh, and don't forget to never underestimate the human capacity for cognitive dissonance: "More room for you and more room for me" and "We'll set everybody free" aren't exactly compatible sentiments, but that certainly doesn't mean you won't be finding them occupying space in the same brain.

After the sixties and before disco, Randy was telling it like it was one insightful, sarcastic, funny, and spot on song at a time. This album to me represents his best solo work.

Written in the early 1970s this song is so appropriate, even now, in representing a worryingly popular view amongst Americans, bless 'em. He's a master of satire.

This song pretty much sums up my view of the world.
