Queen+Paul Rodgers

En 2005, Paul Rodgers et les membres restants de Queen, Brian May et Roger Taylor, s’associent pour une tournée sous le nom de Queen+Paul Rodgers qui les voient se produire dans le monde entier. Le groupe n’en est pas à sa première collaboration avec d’autre artistes, Queen s’étant produit plusieurs fois après le décès de Freddie Mercury avec d’autres chanteurs sous le nom de Queen+… (avec notamment Elton John et George Michael). Paul Rodgers n’est pas le remplaçant officiel de Freddie Mercury, mais sa collaboration est mise à égal avec les autres membres de Queen. Ce groupe est donc une nouvelle entité distincte du Queen originel, Paul Rodgers se produisant avec Queen en tant qu’invité permanent.

La tournée, intitulée Return of the Champions, voit le groupe reprendre les chansons de Queen ainsi que les grands classiques de Paul Rodgers (All Right Now, Feel Like Makin Love, Can’t Get Enough, Wishing Well…). Le groupe sort un DVD live et prend le chemin des studios pour sortir un nouvel album intitulé The Cosmos Rock qui sortira le 14 septembre 2008. Cet album sera accompagné d’une tournée mondiale qui passera par la France à Bercy le 24 septembre.

La voix de Paul Rodgers, plus blues et rauque que celle de Freddie Mercury, ainsi que ses réinterprétations des classiques du groupe, ont divisé les critiques mais les ont cependant mis unanimes sur un point : même si Freddie Mercury sera à jamais irremplaçable, les réinterprétation de Rodgers, sans que celui-ci ne cherche à l’imiter, en imposant son style vocal propre et personnel, démontre qu’il peut apporter une atmosphère et une touche personnelle aux chansons de Queen.

Им никогда не стать такой легендой, какой была группа QUEEN. Просто решили срубить денег. Группа прекратила своё существование после смерти Меркьюри. Продолжать не имело смысла. Заменить Фредди невозможно.

I'm sorry, but Brian May and Roger Taylor did not make up the entire band. They only made up half. I think it's shitty to use the name Queen when the half of the band isn't there anymore. While I love both Brian and Roger as musicians, I just cannot get into this "Queen" + Paul Rogers stuff.

:') Paul a one-hit-wonder. Free is considered to be one of the greatest bluesrock bands of their time. Shame they split before they really had their definitive breakthrough. But calling them or Paul a one-hit-wonder is not very respectful for what they've achieved.

Malleenka: Queen wasn't just about Freddie. Brian , Roger and John wrote some of Queen's most popular songs (Keep Yourself Alive, Fat Bottomed Girls, We Will Rock You, Who Wants To Live Forever, and Save Me came from Brian; Radio Ga Ga and These Are The Days Of Our Lives are from Taylor; Another One Bites The Dust, Spread Your Wings, You're My Best Friend, and I Want To Break Free are from Deacon.) The success of a band is the sum of it's parts, and all four members of Queen proved themselves as song-writers, not to mention Taylor and May both sang lead on various Queen songs. (For example, May sang '39 and Long Away, among others, and two of Roger's lead vocal turns were on Tenement Funster and I'm In Love With My Car.) Are those any less Queen songs, than a song that Freddie wrote and sang lead on? Brian's guitar sound was a crucial part of the "Queen sound" - just listen to his solo work as a testament to that.

Well, yes, they are, but to be honest, that special Queen spell was just because of Freddie's voice and Freddie's songs. And I still think the name 'Queen' is Brian, Freddie, Roger and John, not two of them. Anyway, Q+PR play nice music, but it;s not so unique and magic. ;)

They didn't. They used "Queen AND Paul Rodgers"...a collaborative name. And are you seriously suggesting that Brian, Roger (and John) are not legends? Queen was more than just Freddie, and I hate it when 'fans' are so shallow to suggest that the band consisted of one person and a backing group. It's kinda disrespectful. Now seriously guys, come on...

Right on! QPR was a very good band on it's own, particulairy last year during their South American gigs. Pitty that most Queen fans didn't gave them a change, only because Freddie isn't around anymore.

One thing i hate? Queen fans bitching at each other. The music of Q+PR happened. It is very good. No it is not the same as Queen with Freddie but it was never supposed to be. Please stop trying to rip each others balls off and stop moaning on the shoutboard if you don't like the works of Q+PR. It's really sad to see it every time I come on this page, and it's very unnecessary.

@ The_Vivid. Yeah, I know. That's why I said "with or without Paul". As long as Bri en Rog continue working together, I'll be happy. Though I really think that Paul gave something extra to Cosmos and I really prefer an another QPR collaboration above just a Brian&Roger record. Ah well, time will tell.
