Histoire du groupe
1965-1968 : l’attraction psychédélique

Après plusieurs formations étudiantes aux membres (Juliette Gale, Bob Klose, Clive Metcalf, Keith Noble) et aux noms divers (T-Set, The Abdads, The Architectural Abdads, Sigma 6), le groupe se constitue autour de Syd Barrett (chant et guitare), Richard Wright (claviers et chant), Roger Waters (basse et chant) et Nick Mason (batterie et percussions). Un des noms originaux du groupe, T-Set, est abandonné après que le groupe se soit trouvé à l’affiche avec un autre groupe du même nom. Barrett propose sur le coup une alternative, The Pink Floyd Sound. Le nom est un hommage à deux musiciens de blues, Pink Anderson et Floyd Council. Le Sound est vite abandonné. Propulsé au devant de la scène rock underground londonienne grâce à ses concerts à l’UFO Club, le groupe développe des compositions principalement écrites par Barrett, mélange de rock psychédélique américain, de whimsy britannique et d’un peu de blues, particulièrement dans les solos de guitare.

Le groupe signe un contrat avec EMI en 1967 et sort quelques singles : Arnold Layne en mars, See Emily Play en juin. Sorti en août 1967, le premier album du groupe, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (nom tiré d’un chapitre du Vent dans les Saules de Kenneth Grahame), est considéré comme un exemple typique de psyché folk britannique. L’album est un succès au Royaume-Uni, mais pas aux États-Unis. À cette période, le groupe part en tournée avec Jimi Hendrix, ce qui lui vaut une certaine notoriété.

    Spotify is largely guilty for tagging the songs with the "remaster" tag, and it is annoying.

    Well, because tags are largely irrelevant for people outside last.fm and let's face it, we're a minority, so when they're remixing/re-naming these song titles, they don't care what it looks like on someone's online library, but instead what the music sounds like. That being said, I don't really know why they decide to tag the songs as "remastered" besides to differentiate itself from the original recording (spoiler: there isn't a huge difference)

    "And Wish You Were Here has this ugly 'remastered' album cover.. :(" That's actually the picture from the outer plastic bag on the original issue of the album so it's not exactly a new cover or anything.

    All the Pink Floyd albums are available in the Web Player. But in the program i can't seem to find any album but The Dark Side Of The Moon... hope they fix this asap!

    I wouldn't make such a huge deal about the "remaster" tags. You were able to listen "non-tagged" Pink Floyd fine before this, so if you don't like the tags, switch back to your old method. I'm just glad I'm finally able to listen these songs on the road.
