Not a bad album start to my "every tenth album" reviews.
Pickled Eggs and Sherbet was released in 1999 and was a colaboration between The All Seeing I, a primarily dance based group, and a number of songwriting and vocalist collaborators.
I bought this album after hearing the single, and opening track of the album, Walk Like a Panther. Co-written, as were many other tracks on the album, by Jarvis Cocker this is an infectious piece of pop featuring a strong vocal performance from old-time crooner Tony Christie. This track blends seamlessly into the second, No Return, using the rhythm and sweeping backing vocals to transition into a track that has a chilled out feel and a nice vibe to the bass.
Although Walk Like a Panther was the track that made me buy the album a bigger hit was the dancefloor filling Beat Goes On which as the name would suggest is all about the beat. It sounds a little dated now, but it's still a decently danceable track.
