Biographie

Core was their best album... And even on the original mix, there wasn't any clipping. Compression/limiting yeah, like any loud metal production, but no clipping. I hate the djent shit they did on the new one, though some of the melodies are good.

If you can't understand the vocals, someone did a bad job. However, the good news: Core has been remastered, and now only has slight clipping on rare parts! It also sounds vastly better mixed to me. http://vicisolumrecords.bandcamp.com/album/core-2014

I'll add that Core has some good riffs and a more classic (melodometal) guitar tone.

The great clean lyrics in Spiritual Migration are easy to make out, you can work out most of the harsh through repeated listens. The album on the whole is superb; the production is almost too clean, but this lets the technicality shine. Really on the verge of unlistenable in regard to technicality, but their presentation is earnest and sincere which is more than most. Top album of last year for me. And I'm not even a big fan of theirs.

Well that's extremely relative Michael. Some bands might want to convey the lyrics and that might be their intention, while others might not.

"Can't understand a single word, and if you can't understand the words, I fail to see the point of having vocals/lyrics at all." < The vocals are an instrument used to add extra texture and sound to the music. They're not a separate entity that are above the rest of the instruments for you to decipher the lyrics. Vocals are just meant to be another element of the music.

Spiritual Migration was god awful though. A massive turd. I didn't think this band could make an album that bad (and I'm not even that big a fan).

Core is by far their best album, despite the production.

Why can't we be friends, Core? I was hoping the YOutube video was just poor audio quality, but there's clipping all over the faster portions of the album. That kills dynamics, and that bugs the composer brain in me...I hope it isn't a masterpiece botched by bad production.

I want to change what I said about their vocals on their old albums: Core sounds nice as does Shin Ken's all singing tracks.

I think Spiritual Migration is amazing, but listening to Core again right now, and goddamn what a masterpiece! Not only is the story amazing, but the way it tells the story is genius.

Yeah basically they are never going to top Core. Core>Spiritual Migration>Shin-Ken>Truth Inside The Shades [3]

The vocals reminded me of Cradle of Filth....and I personally loathe that vocal style. Can't understand a single word, and if you can't understand the words, I fail to see the point of having vocals/lyrics at all.

I find it absolutely inconceivable that anyone would think their vocals were bad pre-Spiritual Migration. Marc Martins is at his best on Shin-Ken. Miguel was absolutely superb as well, I adore Purity, though he really rose above himself on Spiritual Migration.
