Polly Jean Harvey, née le 9 octobre 1969 à Yeovil (dans le comté de Somerset, au Royaume-Uni), est une chanteuse et compositrice britannique. Elle a enregistré en tant qu’artiste solo sous le nom de PJ Harvey, mais c’est dans un trio également nommé PJ Harvey (avec Rob Ellis et Steve Vaughn) qu’elle a commencé sa carrière.

Polly Jean Harvey a suivi des cours de sculpture au Yeovil Art College. Elle a étudié le saxophone pendant environ huit ans et jouait du saxo dans ses premiers groupes, Bologna et Automatic Dlamini.

Elle a publié son premier single, Dress, à l’automne 1991 sur le label indépendant Too Pure. Le second single, Sheela-Na-Gig, est sorti en février 1992 et son premier album, Dry, en mars 1992 (une édition limitée d’un double-album contenant à la fois Dry et les démos de Dry, titré Dryer/Demonstration a également été publié à cette date).

En 1993 l’album Rid of Me (produit par Steve Albini et distribué par Island Records), fut suivi par une longue tournée mondiale. A la fin de cette tournée, PJ Harvey décide de dissoudre le trio originel pour travailler en solo ou avec d’autres musiciens. L’album solo 4-Track Demos, composé pour partie des démos sur 4 pistes des titres de Rid of Me, et de quelques titres originaux sortira à l’automne 1993.

To Bring You My Love, sorti en 1995 et produit par Mark Ellis (alias Flood) devient vite une référence du rock alternatif.

    Haha i knew Adele was British, but she's overexposed in America. In other words, America seems to think their own music or own tastes is the best. If the music is foreign, it has to be "approved" by American fans.

[2] LOL! but seriously guys, don't worry. grammys don't mean shit. if you believe that the grammys determine some sort of "official" validation of the music in this world, then you're believing in a false institutional and commercial construct. in other words, the grammys says adele is the best adult contemporary singer? ok that's just the grammys. a gold trophy doesn't make their view anymore 'official'. i'm a multi-instrumentalist and composer myself. i know more about music in my little finger than half the people on the grammys board. so i say let england shake wins best album for 2011. it's official. pj harvey wins the jae__moon award for greatest album of 2011. is my grant not official enough? then who says the grammys is? see what i'm saying? the grammys don't mean shit. its like rolling stone's 500 greatest albums of all time. those aren't the greatest albums of all time. they're just the editor's favourites. do you feel me?
