Nightwish est un groupe de metal symphonique finlandais formé en 1996 dans la ville de Kitee. Il est considéré comme l’un des représentants du genre et comme l’un des groupes responsables du gain de popularité qu’a connu le metal symphonique à la fin des années 1990.

Bien que le groupe soit devenu célèbre dans leur pays natal dès la sortie de leur premier single, « The Carpenter » (1997), leur renommée internationale n’a débuté qu’avec la sortie des albums Oceanborn et Wishmaster, respectivement en 1998 et 2000.

En 2005, le groupe décide de se séparer de leur chanteuse Tarja Turunen qui est officiellement remplacée le 24 mai 2007 par la chanteuse d’Alyson Avenue, Anette Olzon. Le groupe a déclaré que leur nouvel album, Dark Passion Play, sortirait le 28 septembre 2007.

Formation (1996)

Nightwish est né d’une idée de Tuomas Holopainen, venue après avoir passé une nuit autour d’un feu de camp avec des amis. Le groupe se forme peu après, en juillet 1996. Holopainen invite le guitariste Erno « Emppu » Vuorinen, dont il avait fait connaissance peu de temps avant, et la chanteuse Tarja Turunen, car les performances vocales de celle-ci lui faisait acquérir une certaine renommée dans l’école qu’ils fréquentaient, à rejoindre son projet.

À cette époque, leur style est basé sur les expérimentations d’Holopainen avec l’utilisation de claviers, de guitares acoustiques et des vocalises classiques de Tarja Turunen.

I certainly think he was the trigger factor in the split, though the seeds were sown long before, probably. It may not be his fault but it's pretty clear that the Nightwish guys don't like him, and that dislike was bad for the band *shrugs* I also really didn't like him on the End of an Era DVD, so it's not just what the guys say... I guess he just has a bad aura for me or something xDD And @Lindzii: I might be wrong but I thought that Tarja had said that she would leave *after* album no. 6? :S

@Lindzii: no I don't think so, maybe he isn't like that at all. I don't know what I should think of him. Some say that he ruined the band but I think that the problems already were there from the start. I have only known about Nightwish for about 4 years and I don't really care what happened before. I usually look forward in most of the things I'm doing and it's the same thing with music. The past is the past and you should put the problems behind you and focus on the future

Maybe he knew we'd have to wait til 2011 for a new album so he thought he'd spoil us with drama now. Seriously if there's not a song I can pretend is Tarja related on the next album I'll be really disappointed. I'm so aware how weird I sound right now btw.

I don't think it's a greed thing (although I agree, it does make him look that way so it is a pretty silly thing to do), I don't see why he waited so long. I'd understand if he did it after hearing MPG or something out of spite but seriously, just why? I don't think it's fair to call him greedy though and imo (although it won't be a popular one) I do think he's the victim here, people blame him for the split but according to him (which would be according to Tarja since a. that's how he'd know and b. i doubt she'd be too happy about him lying) she would've left them a long time before the hypothetical 6th album with Nightwish. All the same, I'm happy there's more drama. And SwedishGirl you're just proving his point, you thought his was an asshole after reading the book, if you'd only heard his side of the story would you feel the same?

Karla, the troll's only human, we can't expect him to be brilliant all the time. Actually I think he's getting the better of his fanbase when we follow him just to see stuff like that.... XD Sas what you be doing in a cinema? I took acting classes in the old theater building (ex-gym) which had blackened windows and only dim lights inside, that was pretty crazy :-P One time they built a sitcom set inside and we actually had adequate lighting cuz they hung those globe lighting fixtures all around, that was nice.

v He said summit really daft to the shoutbox of this band I really like, that was a big disappointment to be honest :( I go to school to, but then I sleep the rest of the day like a beast :P and wake up around 3 am to notice that I just spent the last day sleeping so I try to recover it... on last.fm.
