I guess there are moments when every woman wonders about how it would be like to live a life just like that. Sometimes it just looks easier and uncomplicated, but it actually isn't what it seems.

Nellie McKay is SOOO talented! She is my favorite. I think this is satire though... "As I exhume the gloom, Of my shallow life, I wanna be simple and honest and dimpled, 'cause I am your wife"

The poor girl just might have a chance yet, given the proper training & assuming she could (occasionally, at least) keep her mouth shut when not engaged in vocalizing the thoughts & dreams of so many lovely young ladies.

I don't think the song is satire necessarily. The life of the idealized domesticated housewife is appealing at times even to the most die hard feminist. Can you imagine the relief of never having more responsibility expected of you than to make cute little lunches and sugar cakes? However, I think it is a bit tongue in cheek, at the very least.

I can't believe it's not satirical.. In that case she's real naieve! lol. Life as someone's servant (cause that's pretty much what she makes it sound like) is not that great.

Actually, in her NPR interview (November 2007?), she said that this song *wasn't* satirical.
