NPRThe Internet has been Abuzz with Emily White, a intern at NPR, and her article about how she has never bought music and probably never will. and the response from David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker. Lowery's response is a powerful piece of writing, and contains some valuable insights into what The Old Music Industry did well, but it's also A Mess. He has some weird Conspiracy Theory that the "free culture" movement is funded by large tech companies as a stalking horse for their issues. Speaking as someone who's raised a fair bit of money for that movement, I'm here to tell you that he's just wrong. For example, most of my wages when I was at the Electronic Frontier Foundation were funded by a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. He also blames the tragic suicides of two musicians on the free culture movement and the alleged effect this has had on musicians' fortunes. The Framers of our Constitution met in 1787 because the Weak national governance adopted by the Articles of Confederation utterly failed. Their goal, in their own words, was to ensure that the federal government had the power to “legislate in all cases for the general interests of the Union, and also in those to which the States are separately Incompetent.” National leaders must have the ability to address national problems, and this is especially true with respect to the national economy. As The Supreme Court explained very early in American history, there is “no sort of trade” that our national leaders cannot regulate, and the the power to regulate something “implies in its nature full power over the thing to be regulated,” so long as Congress does not trample the individual protected elsewhere in The Constitution.

A friend gave me a list of bands I might be interested in and this was on there. It has honestly become one of my all time favorites- haunting lyrics, unbelievable harmonies and really cohesive albums.

We Love You! (And, Yes, We Are Cancelled)
We, the News & Notes staff and crew, love you, our listeners and collaborators.
I was just in Miami and met with so many amazing listeners, including some of the artists in the 30 Americans exhibit we featured on air.
We got your love in St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, and beyond.
And we're still here for you ... for a while.
Massive budget shortages have brought NPR to the space between a rock and a hard place ... that is: cancellation time.
Both News & Notes and Day to Day (the two wholly West Coast-based shows) will end production on March 20.
We are still dealing with the news, but we are committed to making sure we give you our best, now and as long as we've got.

Juneteenth - Black Independence

Celebration of the end of slavery here in the USA.
June 19, 1865 was this date of NOTICE to Union soldiers that the enslaved soldiers were FREE! Mind you though slavery officially ended by way of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. 2 years late for notice! Major mis-communication!

This is a video of an example of some of the celebration that is done in honor of the day. It is not a well known celebration but in the black USA community we do celebrate it - well, those who know about it and understand it.

Natural Destruction & Questioning Why?

Why did the earthquakes happen in China?
Why did the cyclone happen in Myramar?
Why did the hurricane happen in Louisiana?
No one knows why?
It was a natural destruction.
My prayers go to all those who have died and are suffering during this time.
I have sent donations to Myramar through UNCIEF
I have sent donations to Katrina through the American Red Cross
Those are the two legitimate organizations that I donate to and I will give a donation for those in China too.
Instead of crying, being hurt and wondering what to do, I know immediately I may be able to bring about change by sending whatever I have that may help others. Just know that any financial amount my help. I am even recommending $5 or $10.
In the past when natural destruction happened in the USA, I have physically gone to some locations and helped with the clean up.
When I was in high school in 1989, my classmates and I volunteered a long weekend to clean up destruction in North Carolina from Hurricane Hugo. …
