AVFTEOTW > ROADN > PS > Overworld! Those are the albums I've heard the most at least, and I really love them all :D

I just recently got into MaSu, and I started with hearing random songs from all the albums, but Redeemer was the one that made me fall in love with them. So I'd definitely recommend that.

My first was AVFTEOTW and it is still my favorite :) that was how I fell in love with MaSu.

The good thing about AVFTEOTW is that it's really varied even in MaSu standards.

My first was redeemer, so I'd reccomend that one if you're into heavier more proggy kind of music, If you come from a more pop/rock background I'd say Rise Of A Digital Nation.

AVFTEOTW was my first album as well. And I always recommend it to people who want to start listening to MaSu. But it's not my favourite album! My fave album is Overworld I think.

Have to say I think Phantom Shadow is my favorite MaSu album now. Topping View mainly because of the story, atmosphere and being more than just a collection of songs.

Ok, I wanna get into this band. Any first album recommendation? Possibly something catchy.

@MachineAnimal: good but not stellar, the disharmonic structures are the main issue for me. I enjoy the record but I don't feel a spark I felt when heard the previous 4 albums. But then again, it's aimed more towards the early stuff as I get it so no wonder.

10+ listens more, Phantom Shadow is just überbadass! And no matter what anyone says, Europa rocks! >>This is not my end I know that for certain now This is something else A new day, a different self << Brothers and sisters, we're marching forward, for Steve and for us all! Personally, I would love to see the band incorporating celtic elements in some of their tracks as they would do with the 'For My Brother' soundtrack. That would be celtic cyberpunk, kids...! Of course I would also tolerate some glitchcore/drumstep influence anytime C: Genres to the blender!

The album is growing on me, but Europa, man. I think it's poorly placed on the album and it drags way too long. The acoustic guitars are cool, though.

Give the new album some more listens, people. It's obviously harder to digest than some previous works, but definitely keeping it strong. The concept idea is also great, it gives some extra emotional boost to the whole show!

Also, how can one dislike the vocals of an entire gender?

    le mois dernier
  • Ondskapet

Alot of people complain about the squeaks on the acoustic guitar, I don't really find them annoying. I don't know how many times I've listened to the album so far, but it's still ace, up there with redeemer.

  • Meat_Wolf

Why do so many people dislike Europa? ._. At least the harmonies are done right there, the strings are pretty much magical and the overall atmosphere is very nicely done. Although I don't like female vocals, they don't fit the mood.

I always felt Overworld was their weakest album. This is more for the people who enjoyed Redeemer and everything before that. I'd describe Phantom Shadow as a more epic Redeemer with vibes from Deus Ex Machinae and the demo tracks (The great old SID sound!). Redeemer was also the first MaSu album that I thought was only pretty good at first until I listened it more. Redeemer was just so different compared to what came before it. I feel it's maybe the same thing here for some fans?

Loving the album and only done with about three listens. Perfect Dark, Beyond Good and Evil, Versus and Hubnester Rising are simply amazing. Up there with all the best MaSu songs. Pretty much all the other songs seem great too. Though not fond of some of the weird acoustic guitar in Europa. The weakest song imo...

@Rage: It depends in what tense she is talking in, depending on that 'beat' and 'beats' are both applicable. Second phrase: "her" seems more logical since the subject is a 'she' in the sentence before and the sentence seems more logical like that.

↓ I hear the same as LGH, except I hear "beats" (and not "beat") and "why have we never seen here before?" (and not "her"). So: "If she beats him, she must surely be powerful. But, why have we never seen here before? She is someone new...or someone old."

What a fantastic record they've put out here. Admittedly, I was a bit let down when ROADN came out, despite having two really great songs on it (All of My Angels and Laser Speed Force.) This feels like a great middle ground between Redeemer and AVFTEOTW. Europa is really the only weak track, and it's still pretty good. Versus is such a barn burner of a song.

The new album is awesome. It reminds me more of their old stuff that got me into them in the first place. It even has some orchestral parts again, which they haven't done since Redeemer, I think. I love it! This is easily in my top 3 along with Deus Ex Machinae and Redeemer.

  • Rage-inducing

The new album is amazing. It's just that the hooks are a bit more subtle and more importantly - the pacing of the album lends itself to its 'grower nature' more, with the songs also being more layered and less "lead guitar fireworks galore". It also shows how versatile MaSu are as musicians. I agree with Saltfish (who said their last album was their worst - also for the same reasons); this new album is growing on me each passing day and it's already fantastic. The album has lots of those blazing leads, solos and melodies, but most of those songs are at the end of the album, with the first half being mostly slower/vocal-driven/multi-layered (except Throne of Games, which fucking kicks ass by the way - it has FOUR guitar solos, the usual MaSu is still here...). Great album. Going to the release gig/party.

Actually their previous album is their worst, mainly because it's so short and there's still a couple of filler tracks there. New album doesn't have any fillers, except for the obvious "story" parts. All who say the new album is the worst really need to listen to it more, it's still the same catchy MaSu, just not as blatantly obvious this time.

"The Bigger They Are the Harder They Fall" is the best track from this album, which is probably the worst album MaSu has ever made.

New album is just outstanding in terms of overall atmosphere. Imagination paints epic pictures if u just sit down in good headphones, close ur eyes and just listen. Its like playing a good jRPG without having the actual game. Very atmospheric and solid. More sid is nice too, first 2 mins of The Bigger They Are are pure Jets'n'Guns. MaSu still knows how to make good music, and, what is more important, without repeating themselves. Each album is slightly different, especially after Overworld, each with their trademark sound, but with its own album style. Once again, MaSu proved themselves as a very talented and unique band, and Phantom Shadow is a good addition to their discography.Cant waith to see them live again this fall, in St Petersburg!

It's not a bad album. It's still good but different. I think, the album needs couple of listens until it becomes rewarding. As a first listen, I found really some good to great songs. A Vision from the End of the World is Machinae Supremacy's greatest achievement, thus far.

Very average album, I think. Not a bad one actually, just too average in comparison to their previous releases. Many songs seem somehow pintless for me, and the ones I like are ctachy, but also predictible.

Not a bad album, just different. It's a concept album, and it was clear it will not be like the previous ones. Nothing close to a "disaster", just another cup of coffee. Renegades and the Hubnaster Rising are the best songs to be found there, plus Europa which is sth really interesting.
