It’s been a week of numbers. What with Daisy and mine’s sixth anniversary, yesterday being a year of me being in my current job, and at least two 40th birthdays in the past week – not to mention Daisy’s Grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary in three weeks time, and with nuclear fears in the news again from Japan, next month also marks 25 years since the Chernobyl Disaster. So let’s go for songs featuring numbers. A slightly random list, and a slightly random subject, but hey, on with the show.

It probably ought to have been The Ramones opening this, but if I’m thinking of a count-in, it’s this every single time. It’s a quick “ONE TWO THREE FOUR” before Pantera’s shortest song blasts your face off for two-minutes and forty-nine seconds of some of the most anthemic metal in existence. Don’t think it’s anthemic? Everyone who goes to alternative/metal clubs knows the opening and chorus to this.

Also, as this autumn marks twenty years of my being "into" alternative music, after this decade's rundown there will be a similar one to follow for the 90s (for which the "draft" list we pulled together over the weekend consists of nearly 300 tracks!)...

The only cover of Aphex Twin that I can think of, and who else but a band with the sheer level of technical ability that Dillinger have - with Mike Patton offering a truly demented and terrifying lead vocal - could even give this a go? Doesn't add a lot to the original, not that it really needed to, but for the sheer gleeful malevolence of it, it is well worth a listen. Thankfully, though, it doesn't have a video like the original...

Laibach - Wat (2003)

I was introduced to Laibach through my friend opaltiger. Apparently Laibach is a huge deal in Slovenia, and after trying to think of any other Slovenian artists I know but failing, I guess I see why.

After reading a bit about the band and seeing that their lyrics are largely in German and they have a somewhat controversial image, I can only assume they are at least somewhat like Rammstein. Yes, it's terrible that I am making comparisons before even listening to them, but I think that's a really important detail to note here.

This is one album I've been meaning to listen to for quite a long time. With the birth of this project, I decided to finally check out WAT (which opaltiger recommended to me) and see what I think. The fact that it's industrial music means that, at the very least, it can't be terrible. What better way to start off this project than with an album I know I'm not going to completely loathe?

Halloween at FurPleasure is a huge 3-day party and I was asked to help out by spinning a set, so I promised to do "three hours of 90's classic industrial stompiness." I think I did a good job and still got to sneak some stuff I wanted to play in, but my heart tells me this set was 'too much general overview.'

In terms of crowd, I had a great turnout, but not much audience participation. About halfway through, I had a 16-year old girl come in who blabbed about how much most furries were closeminded, wondered why I was playing music in German (Rammstein), and insisted I play some System of a Down. She left after I mentioned to her though I like System of a Down, they didn't fit the scope. After she was gone, I cleared the tension by asking everyone else whether they thought she was a Sony rep.

Aun sigo con la sensación de euforia y felicidad a 2 dias de este evento, donde una de las bandas mas grandes de Industrial, se presentó por primera vez en este pais...

todo empezó en junio, cuando anunciaron fecha ear la gente con mas frecuencia...industriales, electros, gente "normal" y uno que otro gótico llegaban hasta formar una larga fila...

abrieron el lugar hasta las 10:30pm, siendo yo de los primeros en entrar, ya faltaba poco...

comenzó a las 11:18, con himnos militares...muchos creian que era un intro, pero no, asi, pasaron himno tras himno hasta hartarnos...asi, a las 11:32 inicia el concierto...
