Lacrimas Profundere est un groupe originellement de doom/gothic metal originaire d’Allemagne. Le style du groupe a évolué vers un style rock gothique plus accessible.
Lacrimas Profundere a été crée en 1993 par le guitariste Oliver Schmid. À l’origine le groupe était plutôt orienté par le doom metal, leur marque de fabrique était l’utilisation d’une voix féminine et quelques éléments de musique classique. Avec l’arrivée de la chanteuse Anja Hötzendorfer ils ont attiré suffisamment d’attention sur eux et ont pu sortir leur premier album nommé …and the Wings Embraced Us, qui est sorti en 1995 puis suivit en 1997 par l’album La Naissance d’un Rêve.
Après ces deux albums, le groupe a signé avec la maison de disque Napalm Records pour un total de cinq albums. Une harpiste a été ajoutée au groupe initial puis ils ont enregistré l’album Memorandum en 1999.
Burning: A Wish, sorti en 2001, a été le premier album de Lacrimas Profundere a connaître un engouement par la presse internationale. Cet album avait pour caractéristique la suppression des éléments de musique classique, et l’ajout pour la première fois d’une voix baryton provenant du frère d’Oliver, Christopher Schmid. C’est ainsi que leur première tournée internationale s’est déroulée, incluant des pays de l’Europe ainsi que l’Amérique Latine. Ils parcourèrent l’europe en 2007, en première partie du groupe Apocalyptica.

Earlier albums are fantastic. My personal fav is Burning a wish, the entire record has no weak elements. The harsh vocals are minimal but the riffs are catchy and the atmosphere, superb. track 09, diotima and 05, solicitude_silence for starters/advertisement. Cookie for whoever figures out which Anathema track(or some part of it) resembles solicitude silence.
