I like the little stories she often tells in a couple of minutes... This one is a bit longer and it draws one of the most beautiful images so far in her work.

Eleven minutes of tedium. What happened to her concise and focussed songwriting?

I don't think it sounds like an idea looking for a song at all. It actually moves through about three or four different sections with the most subtle of changes. It's actually quite rhythmic in places and I think what Kate was going for is something very understated, opaque.

@RAGGLEMAN: I kind of feel the same. The song works when you're in a certain mood, but to me it also feels like "an idea looking for a song". I still like it, but it's my least favourite on 50 Words...

@raggleman: I had very similar thoughts but I really think it works in the context of the album - as it's in between two very good tracks and then comes the stunning and unexpected chorus of "wild man" which pushes the album elsewhere. and towards the end of this track there are a few nice details.

I'm a huge Kate Bush fan but isn't this rather meandering? It's like an idea looking for a song. It creates an atmosphere and yes the lyrics are moving but a 10 minute piece based on a repetitive two chord riff is hardly a work of genius. Not worth the wait in my humble opinion. I'm setting myself up to be shot down here but I thought every track on the Dreaming was better than this.

  • La_khuu could I have forgotten to add Kate Bush to my library? An outrage against good music.

The multiple "8.44" citings set one up for a bit of a disappointment. I was looking for an increased intensity similar to that in "Sunset" or "Nocturn." Not a singular exhale...

Reminds me of my beloved dog 'Wes' who departed at 16 years a couple of years. Loved wrapping up against the cold for a long winter walk. Very much missed and will never be forgotten ....
