Kate Bush (diminutif de Catherine Bush) est une auteur-compositrice-interprète britannique née le 30 juillet 1958 à Bexleyheath dans le Kent (Angleterre), connue pour l’originalité de sa production artistique ainsi que pour la particularité de sa voix.

Depuis sa plus tendre enfance, Kate compose des chansons et joue du piano. Elle ne sait pas encore que quelques années plus tard, elle est sur le point de vivre un fabuleux destin. Alors qu’elle est encore à l’école, elle rencontre Davild Gilmour des Pink Floyd.

Impressionné par ses compositions et convaincu d’avoir trouvé «la» perle rare, il n’hésite pas une seconde à lui faire enregistrer des démos qu’il présente ensuite à sa maison de disque EMI.

Jusqu’en 1978, Kate apprend le chant, la danse et l’écriture, avant de sortir son premier album « The Kick Inside ». Le succès est fulgurant ! Son single, «Wuthering Heights», tiré d’un roman d’Emily Brontë, se classe numéro 1 des Charts anglais en 1979.

En 1980, elle sort l’album «Lionheart». Le succès est toujours au rendez-vous et les fans aussi. Peter Gabriel en personne la contacte pour travailler avec lui sur des duos dont « Don’t Give Up ».
Les années 80 marquent la consécration de cette artiste hors du commun. Le public découvre le titre «Babooshka» et l’album «Never For Ever». Sa maturité vocale et sa maîtrise technique sont alors à son apogée.

    I love TKI. Granted, it was the first album I bought by Kate, but it's still one that stands out to me among a pretty fantastic overall backcatalogue.

    Then you realize that this album was basically written by a 15-16 year old kid. < thats not even the reason why I regard The Kick Inside as one of her best albums. It is incredible that she made it that young though. Im 17 and couldn't write **** compared to even her worst songs.

    I can see that The Kick Inside would have some mediocre moments to the uninitiated, but then you realize that this album was basically written by a 15-16 year old kid. There are demos of the songs she did as a teen, and they are the same songs. There was not some producer behind the scenes making all the music for her as you see with most teen musicians. When you think about what this album accomplished, it's hard not to not be amazed by it. I mean, it's not like it'd even be bad if Kate weren't a teen. The songs are mostly solid either way! That aspect just makes it more legendary.
