Kalmah est un groupe de Melodic Death Metal, formé en automne 1999 dans la ville de Oulu, en Finlande. Leur style est dans la même lignée que Children of Bodom et Norther. La formation de ce groupe se fit après la séparation du groupe Ancestor.
Moins d’un an après sa création, Kalmah fut signé par Spikefarm Records, une division de l’étiquette finlandaise Spinefarm Records.
Ce groupe a un style assez proche de Children of Bodom même si l’utilisation du clavier est bien différente puisque Children l’utilise majoritairement en solo alors que Kalmah l’utilise dans toute la continuité de ses morceaux, pour donner l’ambiance.
