  • Let The Gig's Begin

    14 oct. 2005, 14h45m par nuzzaci

I have lived in London for over 2 years now. During these two years I've been at 3 concerts (not counting the once I have been played or the bands I have seen at the same venue as the gig's I have played).

I remember when I came to London. First week I bought a Time Out and highlighted all the band I was going to see. It was about 3 each month that was a Most See.
So far I have seen Jason Mraz, Cake and Eels... and that's in like 30 months... and Eels I saw 2 days ago...

It's not that my gig experiance in London has been bad. The Jason Mraz gig was probably one of the best once I have ever seen (or experienced), and the Cake one was as well very good.

Before I moved to london I actually went to more gig's then I do now. Guess It's too easy here (but it's also less easy some times. Like getting tickets to the concerts were performing artist has a wide fan base in London (or are very commercial). Then you need to either be lucky, have connections, be desperate or be prepared to pay a lot to get a ticket).

Not only was my sister in the same class as Wes Borland at Douglas Anderson (Class 1994?), she was also in a wedding party with Jason Mraz a couple years ago. Weird, eh?

    Come Home by Ari Hest
Oh, this song is just painfully sweet. It's so artfully and longingly done, and when he starts beseeching you it's not like the kind of sensitive guy who you kind of want to step all over, it makes him this guy who's sensitive in a manly way but yet he's man enough to admit that he loves you and misses you, a la Jack Johnson. In fact, he's quite like a less comatose version of him. Don't get me wrong, I like the coma, but this song DEMANDS you be amazed at how MANLY he is about missing you, and he DEMANDS you return to him. He DEMANDS it because he wants to LOVE YOU SO GOOD. And if that doesn't make your day, well, you have no soul.
Words can be quite vivid, but they can't bring you to me live. So just come home as soon as you can, come home, and don't ever leave again.

  • Jason Mraz - Mr. A-Z

Methinks most people will remember that "The Remedy" by Jason Mraz was one of 2003's most rampant summer pop singles in just about every retail clothing store they shopped in for more than ten minutes. I wanted so badly to hate the song with every fiber of my being, but there would be those days I'd be working a morbid 4-hour shift at the local GUESS? Jeans factory outlet where I just simply couldn't resist the sheer catchiness of the song. The motherfucker was pretty proficient at writing an infectious headworm.

It also didn't help that he demonstrated tolerable syncopated lyrical prowess on some other tunes off of his not-so-clever-at-all titled debut, Waiting for My Rocket to Come. Nor was he a bad guitarist. And he may have had an unmistakable boy band-esque delivery, yeah, but it was unique. Sort of.

Enter Mraz's ridiculously narcissistic sophomore set, Mr. A-Z. …
  • Something beginning with... J!

    14 sept. 2005, 16h16m par gilchrist1984

I noticed this a few days ago, a lot of the artists i've been listening to recently begin with the letter J. At the moment i'm loving Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Joseph Arthur, James Blunt, Joey DeGraw, Jimmy Eat World.

I do love loads of other artists at the moment as well like The Pussycat Dolls, Gavin DeGraw, Tyler Hilton & Girls Aloud to name a few!!

I just thought it was wierd how many artists i love started with the letter J.

One of my favourite songs at the moment has to be Daughters, in fact i'm loving pretty much all of John Mayer's two albums Room for Squares & Heavier Things, can't believe i only just started listening to this guy last week.

Sorry for the totally random post!

I spend far too much money on concert tickets. Much too much.

Jonny Lang Acoustic & Buddy Guy
Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, & Ben Lee (opening)
    Hanson (Mayfest in Tulsa)
    Dave Matthews Band (twice)
Ben Folds (with some weird accordian guy opening)
Bright Eyes (with The Faint opening!)
    Elton John
Sir James Galway & the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Othello
and others that I can't recall at the moment...
    ETA: VnV Nations

Concerts I have tickets to for the remainder of the year (so far):

FarmAid (featuring Buddy Guy, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, & lots of other people.)
    Hanson (Chicago 11/16)
    Hanson (Chicago 11/17)
    Hanson (Milwaukee 11/19.. I think)
    Hanson (Tulsa 11/23)
Just bought tickets for Ben Folds (Chicago Theater, 10/27)
Jason Mraz (don't know the date at the moment)
