BRIAN POSEHN: Debuts Material Off ‘Fart And Wiener Jokes’

Brian Posehn has posted two tracks, “ITunes” and “Valet In The Valley”, off his brand new stand-up album Fart And Wiener Jokes online now via his newly redesigned MySpace page: MySpace.com/BrianPosehn. Fart And Wiener Jokes is due out on April 27th and is available for pre-order at this location.

Fart And Wiener Jokes, the follow-up to his is Live In: Nerd Rage debut, was recorded at various live gigs across the US during 2009. The record will also include two musical tracks, “More Metal Than You” and a cover of the Kenny Rogers classic “The Gambler”. Posehn recorded these songs with the help of a number of “metal” all-stars including Scott Ian (Anthrax), Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow), Mark Morton (Lamb of God), John Tempesta (Exodus, The Cult), Russ Parrish (Steel Panther), and more.

Posehn will be performing this week as part of South By Southwest, co-headlining the Relapse Records 2010 SXSW Showcase along with metal legends Voivod. He also has dates lined up in Irvine, CA, Tempe, AZ and a special one-time performance with his all-star band featuring Scott Ian, Brendon Small, John Tempesta and Joey Vera at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards show in Los Angeles, CA on April 8th. This performance will be later televised on May 22nd on VH1 Classic. Additional live dates will be announced soon.

ステージ上には既にMachine Headの黒地に白字と白模様のThe Blackeningのバックドロップ(ステージが狭いのでバックドロップが狭苦しそう。)と、一段高いドラムセット、その横にバックドロップと同じような模様の台に黒布を掛けて見えないようにしているものなどのマシーンヘッドのセットが置かれている。
Crossfaithの音は、キーボードだろうか、電子音が加わり、どちらかというとエレクトリックな音も効果的な早いテンポの面白い音。新しさ感じる若い音です。といっても軽くない。特にボーカルのデストーションボイスが素晴らしい。progの人、おさかなくんに少し似てまつげが魅力的なんですが、時折デスボイス出す他にステージの上手下手を自在に動き、観客煽ったり、面白い身振りします。少ない曲数でしたが、観客は既にMachine HeadのTシャツ着た人が目立ちましたがその他Crossfaithファンと思われる人たちは若い子が多めで、会場も早くも盛り上がりモッシュも起こっていました。

SEにPanteraのWalkなどがかかります。人が混んできました。既に臨戦態勢の男の子が会場後ろの空きがある部分で肩入れたり、足動かしたり、準備運動してます。ステージが始まると、一曲目から既にCrossfaithより更にでかいサークルピットでハードコアモッシュしてます。バックステージには、ちょっと両端が違う生地の騎士の旗のようなBleeding Throughのバックドロップが、Machine HeadのThe Blackeningのバックドロップの前に下げられてきました。オレンジや赤が効果的に使われています。
Brandan Schieppatiは、MCで曲名をデス声で言うので良く分からない。一番でかいサークルピットを作れとか煽ったりします。また、今夜プレイできて光栄だ。次回は東京でヘッドライナーで来るぜ。新しいアルバムを出してくれたロードランナーに感謝。などなど言っていた。
上手端のキーボードの美人のおねいさんMartaのヘドバンが凄い。長い髪がぐるんぐるん回転している。しかもうつむくもんだからくっきりと胸のたにまが・・・・・・・。短かったけどbandも観客も熱気があって、なかなか素晴らしいスタートです。

マイクチェックの人は昨日と同じ人。また面白いせりふ言わないかなと見ていたけど特に無い。 (マシヘの前にも同じ人が来て、そのときに言ってた。)Bleeding Throughのバックドロップが片付けられ、そこに黒地に赤系統の炎とHatebreedのロゴのついたバックドロップが下げられてきます。Machine Headのものより小さいけど、Bleeding Throughのよりはでかいです。
18:50頃に暗転、メンバー登場。昨日ジェイミーはCrowbarのTシャツ着ていたけど、今日は違った。骸骨柄のメタルTだ。last.fmのタグにmoshcoreとあるとおり、会場は凄いモッシュとサークルピット。しかも普通のただ体がぶつかるだけのモッシュではなく、手があちこちに繰り出されながら回転するよく目にする言葉では、テコンドーモッシュとか言われているようなもの。びっくりしたのは、男性人に混じって中肉中背の普通な感じの女性が混じっていたこと。しかも楽しそうな表情。
ステージの上でもジェイミーが手を繰り出して回転したり、足を膝から挙げてみたり、ああこの人も若い頃相当観客側でもやってたのね、と納得させます。
一曲目からできた会場のでかいサークルピットにご機嫌。
昨日、今日は全部違う曲をやるよ、と言っていたので、昨日と違うセトリとなっている。両日見れた人は幸せでしたね。Machine Head, Crossfaith, Bleeding Throughに感謝の意を述べていました。ロードランナーのセトリにもあるように今日は、Wayneの誕生日で、Wayneの紹介の際に、ボーカルの Janeyと観客一緒にハッピーバースデーを歌いました。

1. Hatebreed
Pros - Aggressive and heavy music, excellent vocal work
Cons - Lyrics get a bit repetitive, kinda sucked after Perseverance

2. Burzum
Pros - Dark/depressive song writing, use of dark ambient as well as black metal
Cons - When he was in prison, he made ambient tracks from MIDI sounds that sounded like a RuneScape soundtrack.

3. Faith No More
Pros - HUGE amount of experimentation of different styles, Mike Patton =D
Cons - n/a

4. Slayer
Pros - Raw and evil
Cons - the groove/metalcore influence on their 2000s-era albums

5. Anal Cunt
Pros - Chaotic, noisy and their 'I Don't Give a Fuck' attitude
Cons - Unfortunately their attitude made them turn into the "X is Gay/etc" song title trend. Sucked after Everyone Should Be Killed

6. Necro
Pros - Hip-hop that isn't wannabe and shit, keeping the lyrics from death metal, a rapper that supports heavy metal music.
Cons - Most of the death metal/hip-hop crossover collaborations with other metal artists sound extremely pathetic.

7. Cannibal Corpse
Pros - Brutal, extreme and gory.
Cons - Fell apart after Chris Barnes left, George Fisher-era made it into a "commercial metal" band.

8. Napalm Death
Pros - Noisy, blasting heaviness (Scum will ALWAYS be a classic), punky and grind as fuck (early material)
Cons - After Harmony Corruption, their sound took on a cleaner death/grind sound

Mon 1 Mar – Machine Head, Hatebreed, Bleeding Through, Man Must Die

Man Must Die:
Man Must Die, a glaswegian band joined the Black Procession late due to All Shall Perish pulling out. I'm not one to judge All Shall Perish but they'd have had a hell of a job beating these guys. They played well, blowing the shit out of the few people who'd made their way to the front of the Ulster Hall at this point. The closer, Kill It, Skin it, Wear It, was a pretty good closer to the show.

Bleeding Through:
Bleeding Through were probably my favourite act of the night. Starting with some crazy strobe lighting, the 5 piece metalcore band impressed throughout their shows with brilliant breakdowns and the frontman really working the crowd. The track "Love Lost In A Hail of Gun Fire" was brilliant.

Hatebreed
Hatebreed were a band I'd not really paid much attention to. I'd heard good things about them but never really paid attention to them. They blew my mind though. With massive chanting tunes, Hatebreed certainly worked the crowd, highlight songs being "In Ashes They Shall Reap" and "Defeatist".

Machine Head
Machine Head were always going to be brilliant, straight off the bat. For a start the volume of the bloody thing nearly killed me, as I was RIGHT in front of the speakers. But we were also ridiculously close to Adam Duce for the majority of the gig which was enough for me. Robb Flynn was surprisingly cheerful, compared to the usual GRRR HARD MAN stance I've seen from live MH songs. They played songs I knew and loved - Vim, Imperium, Halo, Clenching The Fists Of Dissent, Beautiful Mourning, Aesthetics of Hate - and songs I'd never really heard before - The Burning Red, Old, Block, Davidian, Take My Scars. Overall they blew the ballacks off me. The highlight was the encore, when they played Halo, and the members of the support acts joined Flynn on stage to sing the chorus of "Davidian". 9/10.

Tue 23 Feb – Machine Head, Hatebreed, Bleeding Through, Man Must Die

Well I am a big Machine Head fan, and this was my 5th time seeing them. Unfortunately what was promising to be the most epic gig of the year ended up being rather disappointing.

Man Must Die - I missed them so I can't really comment

Bleeding Through - they are quite a good band to be honest. First time seeing them live and it wasn't too bad although I don't really know many of their songs. Good support band though and it won't be fair for me to rate them seeing as I am not that familiar with their material.

Last time I saw Hatebreed they were supporting Slayer in 2004. I have to say though, on this occasion they stole the fucking show. Everyone was pumped for them to hit the stage, but I wasn't expecting it to go off like it did. I can't believe they started with I Will Be Heard, I had to rush straight into the pit as soon as Jasta started off. It was a brutal setlist and the pit was incredible. They played quite a few from their new album and the classics too. Stole the show without a doubt and can't wait for them to come back. 9/10

NOW I was ready for Machine Head. After hearing about setlists elsewhere on the tour I was looking forward for Mr. Flynn and co. to drop some gems and treat Glasgow (who they usually rave about). However we got the raw end of the stick. A shocking setlist. The worst setlist of the entire tour. The gig started in the usual fashion. Absolutely brutal. We were all loving every minute of it, the pits as usual were intense. I guess my disappointment started when they started Now I Lay Thee Down, the sound was horrendous during the heavy bits. The academy just couldn't cope. Not only that, during the verses Flynn's vocals were so quiet it sounded like an instrumental.

All Falls Down is a great track. But I don't want to hear it live. But we were treated to it on this occasion. Flynn did say he would surprise us, but I was hoping for some good surprises. Don't even get me started on Exhale the Vile. Why Rob why???!!!!

Indeed Take My Scars, Imperium, Dissent, Davidian were all brutal as always. But what made this a bitter pill to swallow was the fact that elsewhere on this tour the Head have been dropping classics such as Bay of Pigs, Blood for Blood and of course Block. Why were we not treated to these? Still had a great time but the disappointment was there. Newcastle, 2 days later experienced Blood For Blood. We got Exhale the Vile. After Flynn bigs Glasgow up every chance he gets, this was a piss take. Well, nothing can be done now. Hopefully I will get to hear those tracks live at some point. 5/10. Sound wasn't great and setlist was dire.

Sun 21 Feb – Machine Head, Hatebreed, Bleeding Through, Man Must Die

While some people thought I was slightly mad for seeing the same band twice on the same tour, I answer it with the same defiant statement. It's Machine Fuckin' Head. My logic behind seeing them at the Birmingham venue as well as at Brixton was sound; they're due to take a break soon before working on the follow up to 2007's The Blackening (album of the decade, for those of you who aren't aware). This means they'll be missing from the touring world for 18 months at the very least.

It's such a shame that the o2 Academy isn't as good a venue as Brixton; the sloped floors and higher capacity certainly beat the Birmingham Academy's "wider than it is deep" layout.

I had also come down with a foul case of man-flu for this gig, which made me thankful that I'd seen the same line-up a week prior, meaning tonight was a freebee and to be enjoyed as much as I could.

As I actually arrvied on time, I caught the full Man Must Die set; didn't get into it though. It was pretty much metal by numbers without any memorable hooks - so I'm really disappointed that they replaced All Shall Perish, who are a really impressive deathcore band that I'm really interested in seeing.

Bleeding Through, again played a set that was more enjoyable than their albums, inciting circle pits and warming everyone up (as the long queues meant a lot of people missed Man Must Die anyway).

Hatebreed were fucking killer. Again. Gone was any thought from my head that "maybe Brixton was a fluke?". Jamey is the dynamic likeable frontman, their performance as a band tight and enjoyable and amazing circle pits and bounce pits aplenty. I'd love to see them headline, I really would. However, due to illness Hatebreed completely exhausted me (I simply cannot resist pushing people around in the pit sometimes).

So, by the time Machine Head played I was dehydrated (it was 3x hotter than the Sun in there) and woozy from the cold. Bounce pits and pit-carnage for Clenching and Imperium took it out of me, so a couple of songs later - for fear of passing out - I vacated the pit and went in search of water.

I spent the rest of the gig by the bar, leaning against a pillar trying not to pass out. You know what? Machine Head were still awesome. The bass resonating through my head wasn't ideal but they're such an incredible live band that illness can't stop me from enjoying it (not forgetting the maiden of aesthetic glory standing infront of me... yum!). However, by the encore I was feeling a bit better and found the groove of Halo and Davidian impossible to stand still to.

All in all, righteous. Shame about the illness, that possibly my last memory of Machine Head live for a year or two will be tainted by man-flu and dehydration. For me, Brixton was the best gig it could be, Birmingham was just a nice addition. Think of it as the after dinner mint; tasty but not as good as the full meal.

2,000 sweaty fans in a poor venue is hardly album to compare to 5,000 sweaty fans in an awesome venue (especially when I was feeling fine at the latter). Machine Head, I love thee. Whatever happens on the next album, you'll always be one of the greatest live bands ever.

In fact, if it were any other band than Machine Head, Hatebreed would have played them off the stage.
