Groupe créé en 1998 et toujours en activité, composé de Nathan Winneke (voix), Erik Engstrom (clavier, chiptunes), Jon Karel (batteur pour la tournée mondiale en cours), David Isen (guitariste), et Dashiell Arkenstone (bassiste).
Meilleur et unique représentant du mouvement « Nintendocore » qu’il a lui même fondé, HORSE The Band est un groupe de hardcore « expérimental » se dotant d’une énergie impitoyable soulignée par des sons 8-bit (chiptunes, chipmusic) produits à l’aide d’une cartouche de Little Sound DJ (Game Boy). D’inspiration hardcore, avec ses rythmes frénétiques, mais assumant une approche très créative du genre, le groupe n’hésite pas à intégrer des passages moins aggressifs dans ses morceaux, rapprochant parfois sa musique d’autres genres pourtant fondamentalement différents, comme la chipmusic, la pop ou même la musique d’ambiance. Le tout réalisé en conservant l’identité même de ses compositions, que l’on pourrait qualifier simplement d’apocalyptique pour les rythmes lourds qu’elles contiennent, ceux-ci étant accompagnés d’accords mineurs et d’une voix nasillarde très grave. Une voix grave particulièrement mise en valeur dans des chansons parfois délirantes, comme « Kangarooster Meadows », chanson d’une minute trente dans laquelle on peut entendre une petite chanson simplette être interrompue par l’intervention super basse du chanteur.
Bien que la plupart des systèmes de recommandation, basés aussi bien sur l’analyse des chansons que sur une communauté d’auditeurs, rapprochent HORSE The Band d’autres groupes de hardcore pur et dur

Well I got the new album and musically it's probably the best they have ever done, I was going to say it lacked the "charm" of the earlier albums but I couldn't stop listening to it...After a while i realised it was just a bit different. Shapeshift really stands out.
