Still an incredible album. No doom album has blown me away like 'SSS' since I heard it a couple of years back. Any recommendations old/new or well-known/unknown bands in a similar style that can touch this classic?
I'm afraid I will nevermore have such a strong feeling to music like during listening to punishment and ordeal. I love this guys and I never heard a voice like Erikssons! More live show an new songs please!
Wow, I'm checking out Griftegard only now but if you think Warning's lyrics are childish I don't even know what the fuck is wrong with you. "Whining", ok, if you want to be an internet tuffguy; "childish"? How does that even...
They do sound similar to Warning, only a bit more on the traditional side. These guys are good, but they don't sound nearly as morose or moody as Warning -- Patrick Walker & Co. have carved themselves their own niche somewhere between traditional and death-infused doom. I don't get how anyone can call Thomas Eriksson an equally emotive performer, or Walker's lyrics childish; they deal with different subject matter than Griftegård, granted (but if writing of loss and lost love is childish, then Goethe is childish), but Walker's writing style is way more mature than Eriksson's: the lyrics to The Mire could have been written by any 15 year old with a thesaurus, his base rhyming form is pretty banal if you ask me. Furthermore, Eriksson's voice sound like any old doom vocalist, Griftegård sound like what Warning would sound like if they shed their personal sound and went back to playing blues metal. Not that I mind Griftegård, I think they're pretty good, I just found the comparison stupid.
