Great Big Sea est un groupe canadien de Terre-Neuve connu notamment pour des interprétations rock de chants traditionnels terre-neuviensd’un héritage irlandais, anglais et français leur répertoire s’inscrit dans un registre folk-rock , rock celtique. Les musiciens Alan Doyle (guitare, mandoline et bouzouki), Sean McCann (flûte d’étain, bodhran), Bob Hallett (accordéon, violon et mandoline), et Darrell Power (basse) ont sorti leur album éponyme en 1992, chez Warner Brothers Canada. Leurs deux albums suivant « Up » et « Play », devinrent disques de platine. Ensuite les disques Rant & Roar, Turn , roadrage et Sea of no care voient leurs apparitions. Roadrage qui se veut un cd live des meilleurs chansons de GBS est grandement salué par la critique et les fans. Cependant en 2002 Power quitte le groupe en tres bon terme, c’est ainsi qu’a la grande surprise de Murray Foster il voit GBS lui offrir le poste de bassiste. Pour sa part Kris MacFarlane gravite depuis 2004 autour de GBS en tant que batteur et percussioniste. En 2004 le groupe a collaboré avec le producteur Michael Phillip Wojewoda pour leur album « Something Beautiful ». Et depuis 2 DVD et un autre album The Hard and the easy ont vu le jour .

"That singer" was Sean McCann, who often sings lead on many GBS songs such as "The Night Paddy Murphy Died," "Mary Mack" and "General Taylor". The show was over-produced and he was ill. The recording and live performances of GBS-only Gallows Pole are awesome.

Hey i was wondering, on the JUNO awards, wtf happend? That singer wasnt alan, and who ever it was sucked... I love Great Big Sea, but the Juno Award Performance with that other guy was horrible! :(

Just saw them at the Civic Center in Ottawa. They were Legend, as were Spirit of the West.
