As a music fan, and as a reluctant but nonetheless devout
christian, one thing that annoys me intensely is the sheer crappiness of the
christian music scene. For a religion that, among other things, holds values like Integrity, Honesty, and possesses a sort of loony be-not-of-this-world outlook, (or it's meant to, anyway) it's hard to find a band within this particular niche of music that isn't churning out the most bland, pointless, designed-to-sell-records-to-soccer-mums music there is.
Whether it's the terrible pop rock of
Newsboys, the awful shopping mall music of
Sixpence None The Richer, or the almost blasphemous attempt at 'RAWK' that's
Third Day or
Audio Adrenaline, Christian music is completely devoid of anything resembling integrity, excitement, and is possibly blander then
Matchbox 20, which is quite an impressive feat in itself. And don't get me started on those indie bands who have some sort of christian outlook. Chances are
Sufjan Stevens and
Pedro the Lion would sound…
