Gil Scott-Heron est un écrivain, poête, chanteur, compositeur et interprête dont la carrière s’étend de la fin des années soixante à aujourd’hui même si son dernier véritable album, « Spirits » date de 1994.
Père du rap et du spoken words à travers les premières adaptations musicales de ses poêmes, il a évolué en suivant l’influence de ses mentors (John Coltrane, Billie Holiday…) vers une fusion Jazz/Blues/Funk tout en conservant une verve poêtique et politique souvent en avance sur ses pairs.
