Gamma Ray est un groupe de Speed mélodique allemand. Ce groupe a été fondé par Kai Hansen en 1989.
En 1989, Kai Hansen décide de quitter le groupe Helloween, en pleine tension avec son label, pour monter son propre groupe, Gamma Ray. Il s’entoure pour l’occasion de Ralf Scheepers au chant, Uwe Wessel à la basse et Mathias Burchard à la batterie. Sur le premier disque du groupe sorti en 1990, Heading for tomorrow, Dirk Schlächter et Piet Sielck font des apparitions en tant qu’invités.
Le premier album est très proche de la production d’Helloween de l’époque (Keeper of the Seven Keys part I & II), à la fois musicalement et en ce qui concerne la structure : une courte introduction musicale, une ballade au milieu de l’album, et une composition longue en fin d’album. par ailleurs, Kai Hansen échange des private jokes avec ses anciens collègues, sur la présence de papier hygiénique dans les toilettes des hôtels de tournée, dans les crédits de leurs albums (Heading for Tomorrow pour Gamma Ray, Chameleon pour Helloween). Le style se détachera de celui d’Helloween au fil des albums.
Puis Uli Kusch remplace Mathias Burchard et Dirk Schlächter devient guitariste officiel du groupe. Ils enregistrent ensuite Sigh No More qui sort en 1991. Ce disque s’éloigne du style d’Helloween ; en effet la couleur de cet album est plutôt sombre, lié au conflit de la guerre du Golfe, qui a certainement beaucoup marqué Kai Hansen au moment de l’élaboration des textes. Le troisième album, Insanity And Genius sort lui en 1993.

There's a Last FM correction on your recently played tracks at the moment, on Evergrey - Unforgivable. :) I fail to understand the importance of a single punctuation mark in music titles and how it affects anyone. Still, even more I fail to understand what's the attitude of calling one's life empty if that one is interested in ortography... What's with internet? People bash other people; they say things they never would say face to face.

Its important to you? Your life, if I dare say it, must be rather empty if an exclamation point means that much to you. I am more concerned with last fm "correcting" my Shine Forever track as Shine Forver but when I say concern I mean it just annoys me, I wont moan about it.

@Lionheartattack: It's actually just a fuzz, you're right. But this fuzz is important to me. It's just the right tag, according to the album cover. I never use gracenote or shit like that - I edit all my tags manually.

I don't get the fuzz around the exclamation point. What difference does it make if it was there or wasn't? It's still the same music, with no difference in meaning. Besides, I don't see anyone complaining about the album No World Order that, too, has an exclamation point usually not tagged in. I bet the band members are the ones least interested in whether there's the exclamation point or not or whether there's a space before it or not... For Winamp users, the decision leaving the exclamation mark out was actually mine, because I sent the album information to Gracenote. I think I also fucked up the release year and wrote 2009... Anyhow, I don't see why anyone should be interested in those. Instead, comment the content itself! Let's have a good discussions about what counts, music! I also know that your music taste (yes, your!) alone is the best, so no need to make a big number out of it. Now, I'm running out of characters, but top 3: 1. Rise, 2. No Need to Cry, 3. All You Need to Know.

@Higure91 Yes, I know that "Ride the sky" is by Helloween, and so is "Future world", but Kai wrote it, and Gamma Ray have always been playing it at their concerts. Look at their DVDs and live CDs; at a concert my sister went to two years ago they also played it. So I find it a bit strange that it is missing. It's somehow Kai's own "signature song", if you get what I mean.

Not to say about Heaven or Hell... and again you're right - the setlist is too short. They'll sing at least 13-14 songs if you ask me. So I think they'll put the 2 mentioned songs (by me).
