GWAR est un groupe de musique thrash/metal/punk américain formé en 1985 par un collectif de musiciens et artistes de l’Université du Commonwealth de Virginie à Richmond. Le nom n’a pas de signification particulière. Le groupe est particulièrement connu pour ses costumes directement inspirés de films de science-fiction et horreur, ses paroles très vulgaires et sa mise en scène morbide recréant de manière semi-humoristique des actes de scatologie, sado-masochisme, nécrophilie, pédophilie, zoophilie, des rituels de danse païens et d’une manière générale tout autre thème violent et/ou politiquement controversé.
