This is a feeble attempt to keep track which brilliant new discoveries i got from where, and of course to give some credits where it's due ^^ I know i probably have too much time on my hands on a midsummer sunday evening, but after all i'm just a nerd cleverly disguised as a charming girl :}

I tried to keep it timely ordered, but it may not be entirely correct. I have only mentioned recommendations i find really worthy while the same person has often recommended more :P I hope i didn't miss anyone? If so, please feel free to remind me. Also, some people might be mentioned who never have recommended me anything personally. This means i have found their music library to be a gold mine and dug out something from there ;)

Black Metal

My impression of Canadian black metal has always been in the form of war metal in the veins of bands like Blasphemy and Conqueror, with little attention paid to bands that play other forms of black metal in the country. On first look at the album artwork, it was hard to decide what category Fortresse would fall into. Crépuscule d'Octobre is my first encounter with the band and I have to say I was pretty surprised listening to the album for the first time.

While the album artwork gives the imagery of summer sunshine and of the harvesting season, once the album begins, any such impressions are lost as what is presented musically is cold and atmospheric black metal with no attempt to provide any warmth to listeners whatsoever. …

So, it's that time of year again, the old year has passed, and we all like to make some sort of sense of it, or evaluate it. And the most common way of doing so seems to be the good old albums of the year lists. I did a top 5 last year, but I think I'm going to be a mad head and do a top 10 this year. I surprised myself a little with this one. I was unsure what was going to take tenth place, and of all the albums, this seemed the one that I've wanted to listen to most. A bit a late comer for me, I hadn't really taken to it when it first came out, and it's only in these last few months that's it's really grabbed me. I think it's the vocal melodies that really make me love this album. Perhaps a bit out of place with the rest of the list, but I don't really care.
