Flowers From The Man Who Shot Your Cousin : sous ce drôle de nom emprunté au titre d’une chanson oubliée d’Earl T. Wilson, empreint d’une douce ironie, se cachent Morgan Caris (ex guitariste/chanteur du trio pop folk Loons ) et sa folk acoustique légère, triste et mélancolique… et sarcastique parfois aussi.
Après une enfance passée dans l’Etat de New York et une adolescence à Paris, Morgan Caris trouve son inspiration dans « l’in-between ». Dans l’entre-deux qu’on retrouve tout au long de son disque : entre tradition folk américaine et renouveau, entre douceur apparente et profondeur de l’expression, entre intime et ornementation, entre force et fragilité.
« Hapless », qui signifie malheureux ou malchanceux, est le premier album solo de Morgan Caris et est sorti en 2006 sur le label folk indépendant « Waterhouse Records » dont s’occupe Erwan, autre ancien membre de Loons. A l’écoute de ce premier album, on peut penser aux pionniers du folk américain, de Nick Drake à Leonard Cohen, comme à certains troubadours folk des temps modernes, Sufjan Stevens en tête. Parfois, il rappelle Smog mais en moins pesant ou Will Oldham.
