vocals have nothing to do with talent. you either have a nice voice or you don't. Also, you can get a rather fair voice by practicing a whole lot. neither of these has anything to do with talent.

The problem is I never even mentioned Alcest. I just generally dislike Audrey's 'style' and can't find any charm in it whatsoever.

i disagree i think that the vocals of Alcest and Ameseurs work quite well, even if the vocals were bad, alcest is an amazing and gorgeous sounding band

Fen is only similar to Amesoeurs in that the vocals are quite awful at times.

Excellent band that has to make a serious effort on clean vocals though. Or stop using some. The best song imho is As buried spirits stir, and it has no clean vocals. Why more keyboards ? I don't see. They have to play what they want to.

The Amesoeurs/Alcest -comparing is well justified. At times The Malediction Fields has very shoegazy moments, which immediately brought Alcest to my mind. The post-rock tag, that I don't understand. The Malediction Fields is decent overall. The songs are good, vocals are fine (though I hope they will make improvements in the cleans in the future - they aren't bad, but clearly off-key at times.), but the production is what fails this time. It's just muffled, and not even in the sense of a sound deserving of atmospheric bm. Just bad. There are times when you can only hear the vocals and cymbals, so is that good then. :D (A little exaggareted, but you get the point.)
