Listening to the album "Elvis' Christmas Album" released in 1957. The last album released before Elvis left to join the Army. Fourth album in a row the chart at #1.

A correction to the lakerecord's shout six or seven shouts below: There are TWO Thomas Dorseys - ~~Tommy Dorsey, the swing band leader, and Thomas A Dorsey, an even more interesting guy. He started as "Georgia Tom" in the 1920s, singing fairly crude blues songs. However, he then veered towards religious music and effectively became the father of Gospel music as it is now known. Not only did he write a lot of the classic Gospel songs (including "Take My Hand", but he also travelled the country singing and helping set up Gospel choirs (This was in the 1930s). Now, in my library on last.fm there's a version of "Take my Hand" in the name of Thomas A Dorsey and Marion Williams. In this, Dorsey can be heard telling the very sad story of how he came to write this song (his wife died in childbirth while he was traveling), and then Marion belts the song out. It's a seriously moving track, so if you want to get a better sense of the background to this Elvis hit, try it out.
