Formé en 2002 par Chrigel Glanzmann comme studio-project au début, le groupe décida de jouer du metal traditionnel additionné par du mystique au travers de la musique folk celtique. Dans plusieurs chansons, Eluveitie utilise le gaulois helvète, un langage plus ou moins éteint, à la base utilisé par les anciens helvètes des clans celtes. Eluveitie signifie « Je suis le suisse » en ancien gaulois.
Eluveitie est composé de 9 membres.
A la suite de la sortie de leur album « Vên » en octobre 2003, ils signent en 2004 un contrat avec Fear Dark Records, qui distribue leur nouvel album, « Spirit ». En 2008, Eluveitie a sortit son deuxième album (le 15 février 2008), « Slania ». En 2008, pour leur nouvel album, ils signent également chez Nuclear Blast.
Mi juillet 2008, les jumeaux Rafi et Sevan quittent le groupe pour des raisons personnelles, ils sont maintenant remplacés par Päde Kistler et Kay Brem.

@BossHossV8Bikes-- similar problems at the venue in Worcester, MA. Eluvieitie didn't even try to play any of the acoustic songs, because the venue's equipment wasn't up for it. Belphegor stopped their set three or four times to re-do the sound check and try to get the equipment sounding right.

@DanCorb, yeah it is very tough to find a band just like Eluveitie, which is why I respect them so much, they have an original sound that can't be matched. @BossHossV8Bikes, damn dude that sucks. Though for a few of their songs the levels were a bit off, like when they were playing Inis Mona, you could barely hear the flute, which kinda sucked because I love that solo Chrigel plays

AlexShelley, max_pyro: None of those bands even come close to the sheer power, heaviness, and melody of Eluveitie. Thank you for your suggestions but I'm still finding it very difficult to find a folk metal band like Eluveitie.

korpliklaani lol, thats an entirely different kind of music man. folk metal bands you guys should check out are waylander,obtest, oedroerir, fejd, moonsorrow, tyr or oakenshield, just to name a few.

Must be nice! The venue here in LA, "Ultraviolet Social Club" kept having too many audio problems. Their levels weren't the way it should be, the drums were too high, vocals and flute nearly inaudible, hurdy gurdy barely noticeable... they weren't too pleased, but not nearly as pissed as Vreid was. Though, even with all the difficulties they were still phenomenal. But I was hoping to hear some acoustic stuff.

Saw these guys last night, absolutely amazing. For most of the set the electric instruments drown'd the acoustic ones, but they played "Brictom" and I could hear the hurdy gurdy and everything. Pure wonderfulness.

anna had a cold during the show in new york, so nothing was played off the evocation i album.. which i didn't mind. the new metal song that they did play sounded very promising. i love this band ;D

They often have strange settings live...just because it's hard to mix. You have the same problem with many other folk-metal bands....too heavy contrast between acoustic instruments and distorted guitars, too strong distortion and so on.
