The group formed in 1999 out of vocalist/guitarist Will Martin from Kansas, guitarist Mike Callahan from Ohio, French guitarist Scott Kohler, and drummer Dieter Hartmann from Austria. The foursome signed to Warner Bros. after the label heard their melodic metal and entered the studio with producer David Kahne. After the recording session, the record was polished up by mixer Andy Wallace and released in the summer of 2002 as Letting Go.
Having expanded the line-up to include bass player Johnny Sprague, Earshot spent much of that year on the road, touring and promoting their Warner Bros. debut album which hit #86 on The Billboard Top 200 chart; after months of sharing stages with the likes of Kid Rock and Stone Temple Pilots, the group had played their songs to thousands of appreciative fans, who recognized two popular radio hits; both of the singles, Get Away and Not Afraid, climbed into The Mainstream Rock Tracks chart reaching the #6 and #24 spots, respectively.
Following the departure of Hartmann, Earshot pulled in drummer Chas Stumbo and in June 2004 released Two; the band’s sophomore effort failed to rise above #127 on The Billboard 200 Albums list, however it yielded a couple of Active Rock hit singles, Wait peaked at #13 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and Someone hit the top 30.

I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but the new earshot album sounds so fresh and unique compared to the other rock that is out there. It feels like the future of it's genre. I wish more people would notice these guys.

I listen to both, Tool and Earshot, and both are unique and awesome in their own way. I agree that Earshot has more than a slight Tool influence in their music, but saying they're a rip-off is like saying that all progressive rock bands today are rip-offs of Pink Floyd.

What's the deal with this Earshot album "The Pain" I have in my collection? I can't seem to find it on any legit website. It's a red album cover with a dude holding both his hands over his face. I'm perplexed.

Been a huge Earshot fan ever since Headstrong appeared on The Queen Of The Damned soundtrack. Loved the whole Letting Go album and The Silver Lining was a very good album as well. I liked Two, but not as much as the other albums.

i dont remember how i found out about this band, but i fell in love with their music after listening to tongue-tied, but gotta say Missunderstood will be my all time favourite. great band too
