Darkthrone est fondé en 1986 à Kolbotn (Norvège), par Nocturno Culto et Fenriz. A la suite de leur premier album intitulé « Soulside Journey » (album Death Metal), le groupe abandonne ce style et sort le légendaire « A Blaze In The Northern Sky », monument du Black Metal.
Depuis les années 2000, le groupe adopte une attitude beaucoup plus punk et nihiliste que proprement black métal, avec des piques envers les groupes « evil » de black, qui surenchérissent en matière de corpsepaints, paroles sataniques, etc. notamment dans le morceau « Too old, Too cold ».

My EPIC STATE OF MIND is beyond nothing yet beyond everything. If that sounds like a PARADOX than it probably is, but let it be know that I appreciate these three albums in no partcilar order: 1.
