@dicerman Cyclic Law artists such as Northaunt or Kammarheit for example in my opinion real dark ambient music is. Early Raion D'etre, Dahlia's Tear or Desiderii Marginis these are Cold Meat artists are kind of "less dark" imo.

I accept it has some melodic structure but every second of it , dark ambience is floating same with Dahlia's Tear's US7 album. Using too much samples like Atrium Carceri is not my style tough. Or thinking of Cyclic Law's bands now, less melodies, less music but atmosphere is great (dont get wrong) then we can discuss are they really drone or dark ambient bands , i think there is a big discussion and misunderstading throughout the dark ambient genre , or what the scene calls it.

For me, however, dark ambient is some sort of anti-music. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that beats, a distinctive melody, or anything more than some drones and a dark atmosphere, are out-of-genre to me - I consider the atmosphere as the most important benchmark. U7S (just like early raison [band]d'être releases[/band], [band]Atrium Carceri[/band]'s Phrenitis, or, for the reason of tribal drums, [band]Sephiroth[/band] is somewhat sticking out of the style. [band]Lustmord[/band], for example does things differently. The Metavoid album is pure dark ambience, even though there is actual music on the record. I could not say that U7S or Phrenitis is a 'happy' record, yet they are surely easier to digest than Metavoid - which is far lighter than Heresy.

If you compare with Atrium Carceri for example, althought dark voice bits much used still Dahlia albums seem darker to me. I dont know

Yes, U7S is not 100% dark ambient record, perhaps it is structural and in concept , not techinally though; thinking of electronic beats and loops as you mention; 7th Sky She Winnows is a significant example of it as well as 2nd Sky Between Lights track. It is dark ambient or not still I believe it is and will be one of the phenomenal album over years.

@stageginger: I don't think that U7S is essentially a dark ambient record. The first and last two tracks are way more electronic, way more musical, not droning and brooding, as dark ambient is. That said, those are my fav tracks from Dahlia's Tear. Older material is much more dark ambient, though, and yet, it fails to impress me that much. Give a try to Halgrath, if you don't know her. It's a more tribal-like project, every now and then it's more ambient-like, but shows quite a resemblance to D'sT, I think.
