Circus Maximus est un groupe norvégien de metal progressif formé par le chanteur Michael Eriksen (Carnivora (groupe)), le batteur Truls Haugen, le bassiste Glen Cato Møllen, le guitariste Mats Haugen et le claviériste Lasse Finbroten.
Le groupe a été formé en 2002 et a sorti sa première démo en 2003. Le premier album The 1st Chapter est sorti en 2005 sous le label Frontier Records en Europe (Sensory Records aux USA, et Intromental Mngm dans le reste du monde). L’album est fortement influencé par les grands noms du metal progressif tels que Dream Theater ou Symphony X et fait partie des albums les plus techniquement poussés de sa génération. Le second et dernier album à ce jour est Isolate. Il est sorti le 31 août 2007 et possède une ambiance musicale plus sombre que le précédent. L’histoire de ce concept album a été pensée par le batteur Truls.
Le groupe assurera la premiére partie de Symphony X lors de la tournée 2008 European Paradise Lost tour.
