Criminally underrated. My favourite Candlemass album aside from Epicus.

I believe I listened to this at the time partially at the cd store, just did not convince me at the time, partially because of the vocals. Not because he was no Messiah, just did not appeal to me somehow. Now listening to it for the very first time: what WAS I thinking/feeling. Halfway through, this is fucking great stuff. Pitty I did not realize it back then.

I see I already said this six years ago, but still; underrated as hell! Right up there with their Messiah era masterpieces in my opinion.

The vocalist on this one reminds me quite a bit of Tony Martin from Black Sabbath. I like that his voice can go a lot Higher than Messiah's or Lowe's. I think he could actually hit the high notes on "A sorcerer's Pledge" if they preformed that one live with him.

Maybe one of the most underrated records in metal history. Vikströms vocals are totally awesome (I just LOVE how he hit the high nots, like the "I'm coming home!"-Part in "Where The Runes Still Speak") and some of the Songs are just forgotten killer tunes. The opener "The Dying Illusion" is a hell of a song, powerful and with a great melody... wish the'd do this one live. "Julie Laughs No More" is a really catchy one, kinda special though I can't say why, but it just stuck in my head. Some parts are kinda Savatage-Like in here... And "Where The Runes Still Speak" may be just one of the best songs Candlemass ever wrote. This is the kind of song I (and many, many others!) would give the left ball for, just to write one of those... The rest of the album isn't on par with this incredible three (though "Ebony Throne" is somewhat great too), and thats the biggest weakness of the album. Apart from that, the classics are there, get it - ASAP!
