Cage is an American heavy metal band from San Diego, California. Playing classic 80’s heavy metal similar with bands like Judas Priest and Metal Church.
An album was recorded already in 1995, but it was never released and so their debut came in 1998 with the album « Unveiled », six years after the band was created. Since then the band has released three more albums, all of them got great responses in Europe but less in their homecountry.
In 1999 Cage won the rock hard best-unsigned band contest in competition with 600 other bands and were rewarded with the possibility to play at the DYNAMO festival the same year. After a brilliant performance there they were selected to play the prestigious WACKEN Open Air Festival in Germany and the metal dayz Open Air Fes-tival in Switzerland. CAGE was able to hone their live skills in front of huge crowds on a consistent basis by opening for Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Dokken, etc.
Their album « Darker Than Black” was hailed as an instant classic by many of the metal industry leading magazines and webzines and finished in the #1 position on the HEAVY Soundcheck chart list.
Shortly after the release of the album « Hell Destroyer », long-time drummer Mike Nielsen was kicked out of the band, but his replacement was found fast in Norm Leggio and the band now carries on as before.

you guys who are bashing the metal band for stealing the name realize that they have been around since 1992 right? The rapper didnt appear appear on record until 1993, and that was a guest vocal. That may seem close but realize that the metal band was going by the name Cage since the day they were formed, whereas the rapper didnt adopt his stage name until a few years after this guest vocal. I'm not bashing rap in any way, I like both genres, I'm just trying to educate.

I read a similar interview and I can't really see Cage mentiong acting black or not... I think it was likely to be taken out of context. He'll be well in the knowledge colour has nothing to do with any of this. I think the new sound just demonstrates a new direction in his life. Each album has led to the sound of DFM. Listen to them in order of which they came out and you can see a steady progression. Love it or hate it

Depart From Me was just kind of cheesy to me. His mindset behind it was kind of fucked also. In an interview he was talking about no longer "Acting Black?" Dude, black or white has nothing to do with hip-hop. It's one thing to stop dressing like you're from the hood, and even getting off of drugs and changing your lyrics up. It's another thing to ditch hip-hop in favor for this pretentious indie/hipster sound and THEN act as if the people who have a problem with it are closed minded and idiotic. I mean, even even Eyedea & Abilities stayed closer to hip-hop than Cage did and they went for an indie rock influence too! Also, Sean Martin didn't really add anything good to the mix either. Hells Winter was a good middlepoint, but Depart from Me was just stupid.
