Big Brother and The Holding Company est un groupe de rock américain formé en 1965.
Le groupe se compose de Janis Joplin (voix), Sam Andrew (guitare), James Gurley (guitare), Peter Albin (basse), Chuck Jones (batterie), remplacé en 1966 par Dave Guetz.
Le groupe connait la consécration en participant au Festival international de musique pop de Monterey, en 1967, partageant l’affiche avec, entre autres, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Love, The Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience… Il devient un groupe phare de la scène psychédélique.
En 1968, Janis Joplin et Sam Andrew quittent le groupe pour former Kozmic Blues Band. Big Brother and The Holding Company se reforme de 1969 à 1972 (sans Janis Joplin), puis en 1987.
