Behold… the Arctopus est un groupe d’experimental technical metal de Brooklyn à New York aux États-Unis.

Behold… the Arctopus a été formé par Colin Marston et Mike Lerner, qui jouèrent sans batteur pendant un an et demi. Leur démo « We need a Drummer » (sans batteur, donc) se fit entendre du batteur Charlie Zeleny ,qui prit la décision de rencontrer les deux talentueux guitaristes afin de rejoindre le groupe. Il impressionna les deux compères, qui décidèrent de l’engager comme batteur.

Behold… the Arctopus est en ce moment signé pour Black Market Activities pour leur premier album, intitulé Skullgrid, sorti le 16 octobre 2007. Ils firent leur première tournée avec Genghis Tron et The Dillinger Escape Plan, qu’ils durent stopper pour cause de blessure d’un membre de The Dilinger Escape Plan… Afin de supporter le groupe, Between the Buried and Me proposèrent au groupe de partir en tournée avec eux, aux cotés de August Burns Red.

In my opinion, the point of Arctopus' music isn't to be cohesive or to have "feeling" like the sense of a typical metal band- it's meant to be unpredictable and at times seemingly random. If they wanted to have constant grooves and feelings throughout each song (which is the thing most haters seem to have against them), they could just make typical metal or whatever type of music.

This definitely fucked me up a bit! I lost focus halfway through the second track of Nano-Nucleonic.... you know the rest. Good stuff, but needs moar groove and a little less pomp.
