Battle Of Mice c’est d’abord l’histoire d’une rencontre, en 2005, celle de Julie Christmas, la chanteuse de Made Out Of Babies, et de Josh Graham le fondateur de Red Sparowes. Embarqués dans une tournée commune avec leurs groupes respectifs, ils se sont presqu’immédiatement détestés disent-ils. Pourtant une relation s’est établie, la plus étrange qui soit. Ces deux là ne s’entendent pas, pas au sens commun du terme, mais lorsqu’il s’agit de musique, l’alchimie est incroyable. Et c’est comme ça que le projet d’un album est né. Avec le bassiste Tony Maimone (Book of Knots, ex-Pere Ubu) et le batteur et producteur Joel Hamilton (Book of Knots, Players Club, Glazed Baby), Battle of Mice a investi en 2006 le Studio G à Brooklyn pour enregistrer les 7 pistes de A Day of Nights, un voyage émotionnel éprouvant dans des contrées parfois proches de celles visitées par Neurosis, dont Josh est aussi le concepteur visuel. Enregistrement volontiers dévastateur, avec une tension maximale entre Julie et Josh, incapables de demeurer dans la même pièce alors que seuls 5 morceaux étaient finalisés.
D’où vient alors le nom étrange de Battle Of Mice se demande probablement le lecteur. Tout simplement de l’histoire grecque, rien de moins, et d’une phrase attribuée à Alexandre le Grand après la bataille sanglante de Megalopolis (331 ap. J.C.), qui opposa les Macédoniens de son second Antipater aux Spartes du Roi Agis III.
D’où vient alors le nom étrange de Battle Of Mice se demande probablement le lecteur. hm... cant really compare them to a storm of light. both bands are - were >:( - fucking awesome, but also both have some really unique singing going on. i loved BoM for the mix of sludge and julies vocals, ASOL is just overall an intense experience.
