Arcana est un groupe suédois de musique néoclassique gothique/dark atmosphérique formé en 1994 par Peter Bjärgö connu alors sous le nom de Peter Pettersson.

Au départ un projet solo, Arcana devient un duo quand Peter Pettersson recrute la chanteuse Ida Bengtsson avec qui il enregistre une démo qu’il envoie à Roger Karmanik, fondateur du label Cold Meat Industry. Ce dernier apprécie la musique du groupe et lui propose de figurer sur une compilation du label avec une chanson, avant de le signer pour deux albums. Le premier album, Dark Age of Reason sort en 1996. Un maxi de trois titres, intitulé Lizabeth sort l’année suivante, juste avant le second album Cantar de Procella.

L’année 2000 voit la parution du maxi Isabel, comportant trois titres, et de l’album …The Last Embrace toujours chez Cold Meat Industry dont le contrat a été prolongé. Le violoncelliste Marcus Ohlsson a participé à l’enregistrement du disque, ainsi que Johan Hallgren pour les chœurs. En 2001 Ida Bengtsson quitte Arcana. Elle est remplacée par Ann-Mari Thim. En outre, un troisième membre intègre le groupe en la personne de Stefan Eriksson. C’est cette formation en trio qui enregistre l’album Inner Pale Sun qui sortira en 2002, précédé de plusieurs mois par le CD 2 titres Body of Sin. The New Light, la compilation de titres inédits enregistrés entre 1994 et 2003, voit le jour en 2004 pour célébrer les dix ans d’existence d’Arcana. Elle paraît chez le label Cyclic Law.

    Это ещё как сказать. Для художника, мнение окружающих, значит очень многое, иногда даже всё. Художник будет творить, невзирая на мнения окружающих в любом случае. Но оттого, какие это мнения, может зависеть судьба его будущих творений. Я уверен, если бы общество смогло бы понять и восхититься произведениями Вивальи, то он бы прожил и дольше и сотворил бы куда больше. И если бы Моцарта игнорировали с рождения, то не многими произведениями гений бы нас порадовал, если бы вообще не бросил музыку.

    Господин B0SSshark. Ежели публика не в праве судить работу художника, то кто может иметь это право? Случайный прохожий? Выставляя свою работу на всеобщее обозрение, художник, уже приговаривает себя к критике со стороны общества. Разве это не так?

The fact that they compose, is only the dictates of their heart, mind and worldview. And if they want to compose music in the Oriental style or in any other - please. Dear Arahand, if you suddenly started making music in the pop-style, electro-dance, russian chanson or jazz, instead of caressing for soul piano music (for example), you would not like the condemnation of your new creation from the side. We are entitled to create our own worlds. And, as the dear Ia says, no one bothers to enjoy the old albums.

А альбом "2005 - Out Of The Darkling Light, Into The Bright Shadow" вообще какая-то фантасмагорическая ошибка, они что решили поэкспериментировать со звуком? Raspail - 2008 - ни туда ни сюда. Куда катиться великая группа? Уж точно не во мрак, где они пребывали раньше. Пойду слушать старую Аркану и искать нового мрачного бога.

    BOSSshark, I understand what you mean. But Peter cannot go on making music he cannot stand behind. He need to create music from his soul and his mind, and the early stuff are not him today! Be nostalgic, love that music, but you will not hear that again...maybe a slight feeling, but not that!

    We all heard that Arcana since album "2004 - Le Serpent Rouge" create music in oriental style, and new album also will relate to East (India now). But in my opinion the best albums were created in early works "1996 - Dark Age of Reason", "1997 - Cantar de Procella" and "2000 - ...The Last Embrace" - they were unbelievable and had absolutely... absolutely... I even can't find any word to discribe it. Other albums lost something. So just want to say that I miss the spirit of you early works and hope to hear it once in your new works. Thank you for the best music over the world.
