Rollo was given the principality of Normandy (which was named after "men of the north" presumably) but the Scandinavian influence waned after that and the vast majority of the people there were already there, your suggestion implies because William the Conqueror took England we are all French? they weren't Germanic? geographically maybe but Norwegian/Danish/Swedish and English are all proto-German, how did that happen i wonder? and they shared similar belief system's, also everyone has a north and south

Vikings were Normans ( "men from the north"), they invaded and dominated several parts of Europe including Normandy in France. Germanic tribes were from the region of Germania, the Vikings weren't germanic

@line_genrou - Vikings weren't Normans, the Normans derived from Northern France and were culturally closer to the Franks and the Saxons. Though they were more closely related culturally than they were to "celtic tribes" which brings me nicely onto.... @Tensir - Are you actually for real? Celtic people: originally came from central Europe and gradually distributed westwards, towards northern/western Spain, Brittany, and the British Isles (where they were pushed westward and northward into modern Ireland, Wales and Scotland). The Vikings are well known for being from Scandinavia/North Germanic regions, from where they raided outwards. Geographically and culturally they were far removed from the Celts. Get your facts straight.

I really love the music - but this picture is just... bad. It screams "phony" all over, nothing more than photoshop.

    who called them barbarians? christians

    22 juin 2013 Répondre
  • Aethelgrim

whats that got to do with a christian symbol on a flag? a thousand years of oppression alone implies an anti christian slant

    22 juin 2013 Répondre
  • Tensir

vikings came from celtic tribes too. Actually most of ''barbarian'' nations did.
