I came to the show without much of an expectation after having seen the NIN/JA tour last summer. After driving for over 3 hours with my friend ppk700 and two others, we arrived at the venue just minutes after the doors opened at 6:30pm. The parking wasn't too far of a walk and getting in was quite the breeze. At the entrance, security guys were checking people and asking them to show what was in their pockets. Upon being asked what was in my pockets, I shrugged and was allowed to pass by with my point and shoot camera pocketed. It was sticking out quite a bit out of my pocket, but luckily enough my flannel shirt covered that. After making a trip down to the bathroom, we got up as close as we could, approximately 4 rows of people back from the stage. At 8:00pm, an unexpected (they weren't billed) opening band took the stage and played 6 songs, taking up about 20-25 minutes. …

Fri 17 Sep – Alice in Chains, Deftones, Mastodon

There's a lot to say going in to an Alice in Chains show. How much greater it could have been if Layne Staley were there in William DuVall's place, how predictable the setlist is, rarely anything positive. That being said, the fact of the matter will always be to me that it's a miracle we're still here seeing the band to this day, when they could have easily given up and died when Staley left us. And honestly, people can feel free to disagree with me, but I truly do believe Black Gives Way to Blue is the best album of 2009 and one of the most pleasantly surprising things I've ever seen musically. So with that in mind, what did I think of this show?

I thought it was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a concert, by far. Was the setlist predictable? For the most part, yes. I'm not expecting to go there and hear Private Hell, but that's a moot point. The crowd was fantastic, even the songs that we all expected to hear were top notch…

Thu 12 Nov – Alice in Chains, Little Fish

    Really enjoyed this gig.

Little Fish were good, for what they are, but unfortunately a two-piece indie-rock group with a female vocalist doesn't really seem to qualify as a decent support act for legendary grunge/metal titans like Alice.

The lead singer sung her heart out, but there was a definite lack of enthusiasm from the crowd, mostly due to the style clash between the headline band and the support.

Needless to say, Jerry and co got the place rocking. Everyone in the venue was bouncing up and down for the first two or three songs, and in good voice for the rest of it. I'm sure someone will fill in the rest of the details.

    Set list:

    1) It Ain't Like That
    2) Again
    3) Check My Brain
    4) Them Bones
    5) Dam That River
    6) Your Decision
    7) God Am

    Acoustic:
    8) Heaven Beside You
    9) Got Me Wrong
    10) Down in a Hole
    11) Black Gives Way To Blue

    12) No Excuses
    13) Rain When I Die
    14) Acid Bubble

Managed to escape Auckland while it was on the rag without getting wet and headed over to Brisbane for this. Was on the same plane as Underoath, not that I would've recognized them if they hadn't mentioned it to someone. Wasn't gonna watch them anyway, heard that their set was crap. Plane parked up at the airport and they told us we had to wait while the ground staff hid from a thunderstorm. No idea how long it was gonna be, but in the end it was only 20 mins.

Weather cleared up nicely for Soundwave. I was mainly there for Bloodhound Gang. Got nice and close to the front, but as soon as they started the great squish came. After a few songs I fought my way back so I wasn't so distracted. Knew to expect a short-ish set and planned jokes, but it was still awesome. Need to see them again sometime. Daniel, the newest addition to the band, got sent out first dressed as a sailor to play the guitar intro to Fire Water Burn. They played other goodies such as I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks

I've found these in a bunch of other users' journals. This test is childish. It's stupid. But it's so damn fun.

Go to your music player of choice and put it on shuffle.
Say the following questions aloud, and press play.
Use the song titles that come up to answer each question.
    NO CHEATING.
and no guarantee for no embarassing songs ;)

How does the world see me?
    Artist: Stone Temple Pilots
    Song: Dead & Bloated
Comment: Oh dear. That's a GREAT start.

Will I have a happy life?
    Artist: Queensryche
    Song: Walk in the Shadows
Comment: I haven't expected anything optimistic as I'm already dead to the world.

What do people really think of me?
    Artist: Elliott Smith
    Song: Punch and Judy
Comment: What, am I both of them at once? That looks a bit like sadomasochism to me.

Do people secretly lust after me?
    Artist: Pearl Jam
    Song: Parachutes
Comment: Parachute Jumpers lust after me? Wow!

How can I make myself happy?
    Artist: Mudhoney

    Alice in Chains w/ HURT
    Wed. Oct 25, 2006
    930 Club, Washington, DC

This show sold out before I even found out about it. But after weeks of searching craig's list and shelling out $90+SH, I managed a ticket.

So I headed out as soon as I got out of class yesterday at 5, ate at my fav burger joint (Five Guys rocks!), and stood outside the club for over an hour to ensure getting to the front row. That said, there were still about a dozen people ahead of me in line. So I just stood out there watching Halloween 5 from outside the tour bus parked at the curb (I could see through the window). But this was well worth it, as I got right up against the stage.

Now to the show. Let me just say, Hurt sucked. Sounding like all the other crap on modern rock radio these days, and looking like truckers who recieved a Queer Eye makeover, this was a sad affair. The voice-phaser can be a cool effect, but using it every song get old. Also, opening bands have no business throwing water on the crowd.
