My year 2010 in music: Peaceful songs for mind, energizing - for body
30 déc. 2010, 19h42m par Jeekabs
According to Anthony Liekins Last.fm user tag cloud, this year I'm more or less into hip-hop, indie, rock, alternative, singer-songwriter, electronic, acoustic, jazz, blues, indie rock, underground hip-hop, funk, folk, classic rock, pop, soul, reggae, alternative rock, southern rock, post-punk, underground, chill, jazz hop, chillout, 60s, blues rock and trip-hop.
My number one favourites in 2010 are Blue Scholars, an underground hip-hop/indie duo from Seattle, United States. I'm totally amazed by their performance - marvelous melodic samples mixed with social and political urban delivery, themes I always have had evaluate. For example, see
Back Home about necessity to bring back US troops from Iraq war and
50 Thousand Deep, which is concerned about Battle in Seattle, the historic protest in 1999, as thousands of activists arrive in Seattle, Washington in masses to protest the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference of 1999.

The Delightful 50 of the 00's (Best Albums 2000-2009)

1 Antony and the Johnsons - The Crying Light
(2009)
The black-and-white image of legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno that adorns the cover of The Crying Light, the third full-length by Antony and the Johnsons, seems to offer a view of a being enveloped in both ecstasy and agony -- or does it? The songs contained here offer something else: a glimpse of a universe beyond the pale of vision, seen only by the individual experiencing it. Neo-classical underpinnings are entwined lovingly with broken pop songs and secretive after-hours cabaret poems. Check the opener, "
Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground". The piano and cello fall together as one slow dancer, alone in the spotlight, keeping memory as time: "In the garden, with my mother/I stole a flower/With my mother, in her power/I chose a flower/I saw six eyes glistening in my womb/I felt… -

Song of the Day 03/17/10

Orange Sky
It was on that episode of House where Harriet the Spy needed a heart transplant or something.
Since last post:
-While avoiding an exam, I discover that I am disappointed with how little I actually like David Bowie. I have been pleasantly surprised with my music so far. For example, I really like American Beauty, and a selection of the Bjork songs I own.
-25% finished with my rating and tagging work. Actually listening to my music is way more time consuming that I ever thought it could be. The problem is that I changed laptops early 2009 and I have lost my play counts and ratings so many times before that. Last.fm is actually the most accurate count I have of what songs I've liked and stopped liking over the years (hello, Chumbawamba!) and it doesn't begin to take my mixed cds and thousands of hours behind the wheel into account. Why did I give those away? I should have kept them and saved playlists. But what are you going to do?

What I'm Listening To - May/June
14 juin 2009, 18h54m par jonathanlovatt
Hiya
Here's some of the artists, albums and songs I've been enjoying in the last few months. Some new - some not quite so new! Pickings have been a bit better since I renewed my eMusic.com subscription which has loads of obscure stuff on it.
Starting with albums first:
Passion Pit are an electronica band who released a successful EP late last year - Chunk of Change. They've now produced a full album and it's awesome - full of different sounds and every song is unique - but in a good way! My favorites are
Little Secrets and
Sleepyhead.
The famous Dave Matthews Band have also released their latest effort - Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King. I have no idea who thought up the album title but it's great! I haven't had time yet to enjoy the entire album but what I've listened to so far is fantastic - the title track is my favourite - the fabulously named
Shake Me Like a Monkey. If you like what you hear, there's a considerable back catalogue…
