Alestorm est un groupe écossais de pirate metal, un croisement entre le power metal et le folk metal. Avant, le groupe s’appelait Battleheart et sortirent deux EPs en 2006 : « Battleheart » et « Terror on the High Seas ».En 2008, le groupe sort l’album « Captain Morgan’s Revenge ».
Les chansons d’Alestorm sont épiques. Les guitares heavy, et la voix du chanteur nous rappelle celle d’un intrépide capitaine de corsaire. De plus, les mélodies, en particulier celles jouées aux synthés ressemblent énormément au groupe de battle metal, Turisas. Quand aux paroles, elles sont empreintes aux plus fidèles contes de pirates, ce qui fait d’Alestorm, avec ses choeurs de bandits saouls, un groupe typique de « pirate metal ».

Le groupe sort en 2009 l’EP « Leviathan », puis en juin 2009 l’album « Black Sails at Midnight ».

    If they want to call themselves true Scottish pirate metal then why didn’t they call the band that instead of Alestorm and i never said Swashbuckle and Alestorm sound the same. But Alestorm definitely stole the idea of singing about pirates from Swashbuckle. They should be called copy cat Scottish pirate metal from now on. lol

Alestorm invented their sound by blending power and folk metal and which I like to call true scottish pirate metal too, WHILE SWASHBUCKLE IS THRASH METAL with lyrics about pirates. Nothing in the world sounds anything like Alestorm, so they have the right to call themselves true scottish pirate metal and that's finall!

    @shofman- I’ve already expressed my opinion on their ‘label’...but here we go again. They have described themselves as true Scottish pirate metal just to get people on the internet to click on their page. It’s a publicity stunt just like when Britney Spears shaved off her hair or when Amy Winehouse overdosed on drugs. It’s just to get noticed, so people will buy stuff.

    @CorporalDoug- i looked up keelhauled and was quite shocked to find i recognise the intro. It sounds very similar to the music from the opening scene of a cartoon series called The Pirates of Dark Water. i know that because my kids watched it all the time... the part of the intro with the violin, imagine that bit but at about half the tempo. That is the Opening music to The Pirates of Dark Water.

    I saw swashbuckle live a couple of years ago and during there set someone insulted alestorm. Swashbuckle responded by playing the intro to keelhaul and told the fan to fuck off.

    @Dhracian. Swashbuckle released a demo of their fist album in 2005. Then they released the album (Crew by the Dammed) in 2006. Battleheart released their first EP Terror on the high seas in 2006 and didn’t release their first album (Captain Morgan’s Revenge) under the band name Alestorm until 2008. I think pirate obsessed Alestorm had plenty of time to steal Swashbuckle’s 'music style' which is just folk metal anyway. Also Metallica have released plenty of material and a lot of it is not thrash metal either, so don’t call the band thrash metal just because most of their music is thrash metal. The trick is to describe the style of music not the band. There is no such thing as a thrash metal band never mind a pirate metal band.
