A couple of caveats: I won't tell you which ones are which, but there are definitely some of these mixes I'm more proud of than others. Looking back, there are definitely some things I would have changed, but I've put them up in their original condition, warts and all. You will also notice that there is no mixtape for November of last year. …

One Year of Mixtapes (Just for YOU)
29 avr. 2008, 4h22m par laura_mac
So, I first would like to acknowledge pzantingh, also of the Monthly Mixtape community, from whom I brazenly stole this brilliant idea. The thing is, I make these mixtapes every month to send to one person. Occasionally, I'm proud enough of them to post them on the community board, but I still feel that they're being wasted to a certain extent. Also (to a lesser extent), I want the constructive criticism that inevitably comes from exposing your work to the much wider audience of musical sticklers that is Last.fm. Finally, a blog of this kind gives me the chance to make some of that cool cover art that everyone seems to like so much.

Mister, you are pretty hot and your music is great.
3 jan. 2007, 15h23m par zar_igor
As a passionate listener of The Strokes for quite a long time I was used to try something special.
I red about the solo project of Albert Hammond, Jr. many times, but I was never listening to anything. That all changed when I saw the video of
101 on YouTube.
Then I knew it was a bad mistake that I ignored his album.
Only two hours later I bought his release and I was very suprised how different but still connected to the sound of The Strokes his music seems. "Yours To Keep" features 10 songs and some well known artists like Strokes singer Julian Casablancas and Ben Kweller.
Everything sounds great, without a doubt. Some say that Albert's songs were not placed on regular releases of The Strokes because they lack quality in songwriting and style. This is just rubbish. However, it's a fact that tohse songs won't fit with The Strokes well. But Albert should try to sing some songs on their next album - his voice sounds supringsingly good.

the 2006-11-04 Saturday Fetch-it
4 nov. 2006, 14h23m par GregKNicholson
Ey. Ey! It's the Fetch-it.
Y'know, I don't know what Babyshambles is for. In particular, I'm not sure what the point of
The Blinding is. I'm still sort of waiting for them to just quit. It's just... a song, with this vaguely unsober bloke singing and a few other musicians playing instruments much like lots of other songs.
(For those that haven't cottoned on yet, this is the bit where I talk about the songs that were on last night's Roundtable – I tend to do that sort of thing before recommending a song for you to get, on which, more shortly.)
And Hold Me In the River has a bit of a hook after the bit where the backing drops for a second. So it's generic post-punk.
(Once I've finished banging on about Roundtable, I'll recommend a song for you to “fetch”, and then you'll “fetch it”. If you don't need to “fetch it” because you already have it, you are good. And hence receive a Disappointingly Unalliterative Saturday Fetch-it Pre-emption Point™ (DUSFPP™). Bet you can't wait.)
