Agalloch est un groupe de doom/folk metal atmosphérique américain, venant plus précisément de l’Orégon. Leur musique est un mélange d’éléments de black metal, de doom metal, et d’éléments plus calmes : longues plages instrumentales à la guitare acoustique ou à la guitare électrique planante. Le demo From Which Of This Oak fut leur seul album qui tombait sous le nom de black metal atmosphérique. L’album Pale Folklore bien qu’il soit un mélange de Folk et de Doom metal retient tout de même quelques éléments de black metal. C’est avec l’album Ashes Against The Grain qu’ils marquent leur passage défénitif vers le Doom Metal. Le son beaucoup plus lourd des guitares ainsi qu’une atmosphère plus sombre que dans les précédents albums font partis des éléments qui permenttent de les catégoriser ainsi. Les chants ont aussi évolués. S’ils avaient encore un son black metal sur Pale Folklore, ce n’est plus le cas pour les albums suivants.

Same. I can't decide on a favourite album between Ashes and The Mantle - Pale Folklore and Of Stone aren't far behind at all though. The White is good too
