Ah this is so sad. I also remember that dreadful day way back in '97 and the way all the broadcasts over the whole spectrum in the UK changed. It wasn't just the radio - even the TV channels went off schedual.

On 31 August, 1997 when Princess Diana died in the Paris underpass, all the airwaves in Britain ceased their normal transmissions and played sombre music - ALL DAY at a cost of millions to the commercial channels. On BBC Radio 1, the most vibrant and upbeat of all the mainstream radio channels, this track was as upbeat as they got. I can rember it like it was yesterday.
