CBC Electronic is still a fledgling branch of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. I cannot stress enough how important support by this country's electronic music aficionados is to the success of this thing. Far too many Canadian electronic musicians are forced to leave the country for Europe and the UK just to make a go of it.

In order to stop this brain-drain, it's up to us to keep pushing the scene in Canada, to make it viable for artists to get the work and recognition they deserve at home. To this aim, I have compiled a 'work in progress' list of all the best electronic leaning artists Canada has yet seen. Enjoy!

FYI: The list is ordered first name first, for sake of ease, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (just comment or PM me).

It sometimes comes up in conversation what my criteria is for the electronic music that is featured on solipsistic NATION. You might think my answer would be fairtly straight forward. “Why, electronic music, of course!” But what are we talking about when we’re talking about electronic music?

Take music made with synths and a drum machine. That’s clearly electronic music. But what happens when you add vocals? Is it still electronic music? See? Things immediately become murky. Take Depeche Mode. They used a lot of electronic gear so did they make electronic music? I would say no. They were a pop band that happened to make songs with electronic instruments. The Normal, on the other hand, were clearly an electronic music band.

What happens when you start adding guitars, bass and drums into the mix? Again, it depends. Kid Rock is a rock act that utilizes electronic equipment while Ministry is an electronic band that plays rock.

If you have any recommendations, please send them to me and hopefully they will make the list even better. I will try to update as often as I can, depending on the amount of changes. I will not update every time I add or move a track.

I realize the list will not please everyone so don't treat it too seriously. I created it for fun and I thought it would be nice to share it with others, but it's not really serious business... Everyone has a different taste. If you feel the need to disagree with it in the comments you are welcome to do so of course ;)

I love recommendations, but please don’t give me a list of 50 artists not represented on my list and expect me to check them out. It’s a waste of your and my time because trust me, I won’t check out all 50 of them and picking just one is pointless so at the end I’ll just ignore your recommendation. Single tracks or full length albums work best.
